Anytime you see crossovers as complex as the ones Carl bought it pretty much rules out Flea Powered amps no matter the efficiency of the actual drivers themselves. Crossovers suck power and often speakers that one would think would sound great with 3 watts don't.
Wanting to use SET would be a good reason to biamp as you might can drive the mids and highs with less than 10 watts, but who knows if the improvement, if any, would make it worth the hassle? It's not like you have cheap amps driving these things.
 
Yeah, Thatch, good point, too. They are really beefy, very high power crossovers, made to resist roasting by big amps, so yeah, there would be alot of loss from the SET just in the x-over. Spkerman57 drives 2226's in a two way setup with a 9 watt ube amp, to good effect, but I still prefer something beefy for the LF. I HAVE seen decent results with SS for LF and tube for mid/hi. Fairly common arrangement, it seems.
 
I just now received the second 8 ohm 2226(H). :cool:
Guess what I'm doing next week! :) I will be trying them with my 300B set amps too.
They put out a measured 11.9 watts each being the DRD design of Jack Elliano, though they could be biased for the
full 13 watts. They sure make a ton of music on my C34's, never
have gone more than half volume on the MX110 I use to pre.

Ok my MC60's waxed and 2226H's installed among other things today. The real deep bass is back! But now I do see I the need to attenuate the horns and that will accomplish what needs
doing to suit my tastes. I was running MC2100 for the bass
which suited the bi-amping in a perfect match using my MC60's
for the horns. So the bass had the 135 watts each and the horns 80 before. I see Parts Express has some serious L pads for
not a lot. :)
The LE15's were great in there and would be absolutely perfect
for classical and jazz, but I play a wide variety including metal of
all types and the 2226 driver delivers. :cool:
I was playing Therion and now Haggard and it really seems as
if there was a subwoofer going the way it shakes the place, and it's not the volume. :D

3/21, Now I am finding that the horns are just fine. It's interesting
how I need to let my ears settle in as well when doing a tweak.

Hi, Carl. Anything new on the CS3115 front?? Still happy with the 8 ohm 2226H?

Mike, still running the 2245 sub????

Ever since I got the Edgarhorn system and took my 2226(4 Pi - Pro clone) apart, I really miss the 2226.

Even though it is 3 db down at 45 hz, I only have 15% of my music collection that is missing anything without subs.

I am currently running JBL D123(12") and 075 bullet on N2400 crossover running off the Almorro 6BQ5 SEP amp (4.5 watts/chnl) and other than the bottom end being extra lean, sounds like a million bucks(looking at the fun factor, not the hi-end purists factor here).

After things settle down after Feb 2005, time to get the "Big rig" back out again. Right now, time is a luxury.

Hi Ron

I'm still running two 2245H subs; in fact, I never really got them up and running until recently. They are really quite impressive. Not boomy, just "there" and deep, and when the going gets tough..............celing tiles are not safe.

har! Anyway, I'm still awaiting cabs for the sub1500 drivers. Those promise some truly excellent performance in a much smaller cab than the 2245's. Can't wait. Gonna have to use healthy power with them, though, it seems.
How is the Edgar system going?
