Registered 11 years ago but had not posted anything until a few days ago so I figure it's time I introduce myself a little. My name is Karl, 55 years old, divorced, freshly retired USCG officer, vintage receiver enthusiast with a preference for the SX-'50's series from Pioneer. I own several of those ranging from the little 450 to the monster 1250 but my favorite is the elegant epitome of the mid-70's receiver that is the SX-650. Hate it or love it's the oddball of the family many will say. Just like I am the oddball of my family.

I don't know much about being heard-headed, but I do know beaucoup about being a metacarpophalangealcranium.

Welcome.

Please don't tell me you're a programmer? ETL is the only context I've ever seen meta... metacarp... well, what you said :D. I'm going to edit the poll because the way I wrote it only my son could tell why those words are synonymous to me. My daughter says I'd jut drive everyone here to think lunacy is my main motivation, and she's not known to err often!

Welcome! I have a 650 on the shelf...should dig it out & see what ails it.

I hope you'll be able to heal it, imho the machine is more than worthy of the effort. I never had any issues with mine save for contact oxidation but this is to be expected and easily fixed. Also, vertical RCA's in the back may be practical but one must take care not to let dust settle into unused connectors, for my part I just blow air into them on Maintenance Day. I'm not sure if you're aware that the 650, apart from being the only SX-'50 without a single push-button switch on it, is also a little different inside than its series mates. Fortunately its popularity means that there are plenty parts available for it even in North America, though they tend to be marginally costlier.
