Now I sell toilet paper at Perkins Restaurant...

JesusChrysler

...drives a Dodge ; )
....are you ****ing kidding me?

They started up a "Marketplace" online so now you can order tp and paper towels from my work.
In addition to buying bulk cases of our food.

What an awful idea. Not only do we sell FOOD people it's a restaursnt; it's cheap ass 2-ply wipe that is $4.50 for 4 rolls!

And how do they expect us to order adequate amounts as we are now so down in business we have ordered ONE truck for delivery since the pandemic started...
Now I gotta guess how much **** people are going to want?

Or I suppose I could say how much do people ****.

It's corporate and as franchise we're following suit.
As much as I would like to think of it as a boost to the community in the back of my head it's a money grab.

More proof that “marketing” is a career for clowns.

You KNOW there was a meeting and someone tossed that idea out and a room full of adults ok’d it.

Be afraid, be very very afraid.

Interesting article about toilet paper.

'The toilet paper industry is actually split into two different markets: home use toilet paper and business use toilet paper.

"With some 75% of the U.S. population under stay-at-home orders, Americans are no longer using the restrooms at their workplace, in schools, at restaurants, at hotels or in airports,” Oremus wrote.'

So the O.P.'s restaurant selling TP seems to make sense. If they are selling the business use T.P. then there is likely a glut of it. And Perkins can unload theirs, make their suppliers happy and help customers.

Even if it is coarse 2-ply paper (I buy the 1000 sheet, single ply Scott stuff :) ) it beats using a corn cob or wire brush!

It’s actually not a bad idea so the restaurant can stay in business. They already have the supply chain. Why do you care if they have to sell tp to help stay in business? So many people are now out of work would like to be in your position.

Some restaurants are turning to selling produce in addition to take out meals. I'll try to find a link to the article.

and Panera too

Some restaurants in the state I live in were trying to sell food like a small supermarket to supplement their business. They already had the supply chain so it made a lot of sense. The locals were taking advantage of being able to get some of the things they needed in the way of food. The governor shut them done saying they couldn’t. It was California.

:( WTF

As I stated I am of the opinion it is corporate greed not goodwill to humanity.
Profit margin on that case of tp is outrageous.
Why not give away rolls with orders if your trying to help the people?
Just my opinion; been at the same place 25 years now.
And for the last time I'll remind everyone I am thankful to be working so don't think for a minute I'm not.

When you get right down to it, you can't say it much better than this -

"Canada, the most affluent of countries, operates on a depletion economy which leaves destruction in its wake. Your people are driven by a terrible sense of deficiency. When the last tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money."

- Alanis Obomsawin, an Abenaki from the Odanak reserve

This actually makes a lot of sense to me.

Theory I heard was because so many people were staying home and not going to work that there was a shortage of consumer TP but a surplus of commercial TP.

I haven't seen ANY TP on the shelf at any store in weeks, I'm hoping I can buy some before I run out, otherwise... well, at least I have one of those hand held shower thingys.

I also haven't seen bleach, ammonia, Lysol, etc. I was going to buy some vinegar the other day to clean windows with and even that is all gone.

its about time people broke the habit of using it and use water instead . save the trees
If it rained here as much as it does where you live, we might. Parts of California are sinking because we've pumped so much water out of the ground.

Actually, not a terrible idea. Stay at home has caused 40% increase in home tp usage while institutional tp usage has fallen to zero. Home and institutional tp have two different supply chains. Home tp is in short supply because of the increased home demand, not because there are production problems. Institutional supply chain cannot be easily shifted to supply home.

On a side note, while few of us will admit to hoarding tp, we all know people who are. This will end soon and they will have several years worth of tp.
