NOW the BIC lives….

I posted some time ago that the BIC 1000 was back to life. I was a bit premature. It did work. But all the damage it received in shipping while it worked, it was flakey. Had to pull it apart and rebuild the actual turntable. Between Adam at Turn Table Experts and Doug who lives and breaths right here I got it back to life.

It sounds great. Looks great. I added the BIC bling on the left front. I may not be correct those came from BIC speakers?

IMHO a great cartridge. Very under rated. The music is more full sounding if that makes any sense.

I learned a lot as I tackled this pile-o-junk 1000. The only thing missing is the parts which can be adjusted to change how slow or fast the tone arm descends. I don't need to adjust it. Its fine as is with the cleaned re-lubricated cue rod/pin.

Very nice 1000.

Based on the recommendation of some legacy stereo folks this is what I use on any wood I have. It works great. Smells great. It's why the wood of the WB22 looks so great.

If you ever don’t want the BIC any more let me know.

Although I wouldn’t mind having a 981. Some advancements but functions are the 980’s. I see some 1000’s for sale some times, obviously as I bought one from there. I have never seen a 981 for sale.

Very nice. In my opinion the BIC series of automatic tables was perhaps the best bargain in tables, price, performance, styling, centered on the 960. Excellent, simplicity of design, form following function, many poled motor, belt drive, changer option, market research leading production, the way to design a machine to play a record. Competence and convenience in a very attractive package.

I agree with you 150%. I was fooling around with Duals. Way too finicky for what you get when you’re all done. The BIC 1000 is a bit more complicated than the 960/980’s. Still not crazy like Dual’s. The BIC’s sound as good as the Duals. I did side by side. My wife with her female ears could not tell one from the other.

Yes. I was thinking of disclosing I have Dual a 1245 that I bought for 25 dollars when CDs were taking over. It worked but I rebuilt it anyway and it has been flawless for many years. It is my table. With that said if it had been a 960 or 980 it would be my table. I've had many of each apart, Dual and BIC.
 
I have a Dual 1019 I bought years ago and I never really had to do anything with it other than relube and I did put a new idler in it, although the original was still usable.

It's a great table and it was/is a real revelation, playing late nineteen forties 78s on it with a Shure M78S cartridge after hearing 78 s played on typical players through the years.

However, my BICs still sound better (all else being equal) with everything else. Just nothing else there besides the music off the record.
