Well, given that the cheapest record storage console they sell costs over $2,000, I'm guessing it'll be a while for them to show up at the Goodwill.

It does look cool, and the separate parts all appear to be high quality.

Still, a voice inside my head keeps saying that having the speakers right next to the turntable is not a good idea.

Danddd - what VanL speakers do you have?

Looks like a PERFECT project for a diy'fer. You use an existing console amp (tweaked and restored of course), some Fostex speakers and your own MDF with the veneer of your choice. Even better if the speakers are on hinges and can come off.

My brother (a carpenter) built me some tower enclosures based on some measurements from a guy who owned SpeakerCraft out of Riverside, CA in the early to mid 90's. My brother had already built his own speakers using the SpeakerCraft guy's specs. They came with Vifa woofers and midranges installed. Since I knew Van L, I asked him to finish them with his choice of tweeter and crossovers. Van L added Dynaudio tweeters and all the crossover work.

I'll never be able to get what I put into them, but I'm real happy with them still.

That console goes for $26K. The console, amp and TT look spectacular. The weak point seems to be the 6.5" full range speakers. For that much money the speakers should be top notch.

...And the subwoofer under it? :scratch2:

My grandma's console, made in the 50's, was suspended by springs and it rarely skipped. With todays polymers, you could make it work. Personally, I'd go digital but I am the heretic around here :D

Nothing wrong with digital, man.

I bet we see one of these in a future Quentin Tarantino movie.

The console has wireless streaming, you're good to go!
I dunno, there's only one of them so I guess the price tag reflects that. The DIY'er in me says that it is a pretty flash deal to turn $2K of componentry and some woodwork into $26K.

You are forgetting labor. Cabinetmaking is a serious craft and not easy at all. Figure the person put in 200 hours of work or more to make it look good. Still, I see what you mean. Even with 100% markup, $26K is a little rich unless that amp in there is something really special.

USA boutique made-to-order furniture, which is what it is and would be around $5000. $2k seems pretty conservative. Let's do some guessing here keeping the boutique market in mind:
$250 - 250W 8" active sub
$850 - custom RPM 5.1 with cart
$250 - what the heck, a very generous guess on the 6.5" drivers
$60 - built in router / airport express / something, not sure what they are talking about.
$3000 - 15W 6Bq5 integrated with some sort of phono
= $9410
+ $4000 markup for parts sourced at retail / single-qty prices
= $13, 410

Isn't guessing fun?
