Agreed. Very cool, but overpriced.
Overpriced, that is, from an audiophile's standpoint. Unfortunately, a few audio pieces that go well with mid-century modern designs sell for big premiums to and through interior decorator shops. They are bought by people looking to make an interior-design statement, rather than people interested in audio. I suspect the sellers are putting this unit (perhaps rightfully so) in that category, and hoping for one of those silly (to non-decorator) prices. They might get it, too --although I doubt this unit would get that kind of price in Japan, where it would be more familiar. It sort of reminds me of a lot of those Nivico units that were all about style with so-so sound, and which sell for a LOT less, although most of them are soid state and weren't as expensive even when new.
