Picked up a pair of Nuance 440 speakers today at the thrift. Really heavy, substantial, black, monolithic towers -- seems to have two bass drivers and a tweeter, and a large rear port. They are biwireable, or perhaps biampable, dunno which. Appears the vintage would be around '89 or so.
Apparently they were designed by Winslow Burhoe, who worked for Nuance during their first few years of production. I knew Nuance made some good speakers when they first started up, though I'm pretty certain that they make mostly crap now -- a familiar story. Looking forward to giving them a listen, but have stuffed them into storage immediately due to their size -- just don't have the time to deconstruct my stereo and play around with these for a few days yet.
Anybody else ever come across a pair of these, or any other similar early Nuance speakers? I'd be curious to hear what anyone thought -- the few posts that I've quickly checked seem to indicate that they are pretty decent speakers. I'll post a few pics later when I drag them inside.
Oh, also grabbed a Pioneer CT-F1000 for 15 bucks -- like I really need another cassette deck!
