oddball singles on ATCO

These groups were already established on their respective labels....but yet...managed to at the same time get singles released on ATCO (a division of Atlantic Records)
The Who were on Decca...Troggs on Fontana...and The Spencer Davis Group were on United Artists. I do remember when "Wild Thing" was released,
I saw it both on ATCO and Fontana at the same time!

Ironic to see Townshend/the Who on ATCO 'way back then -- given that, years later, they'd end up (EDIT: well, at least he'd end up) on ATCO.

Did that ATCO "Substitute" have something to do with the "Shel Talmy thing" that plagued Townshend/the Who for... decades?

I honestly don't know. Even The Beatles had at least one single on ATCO in the early days. As I recall it was "Ain't She Sweet" b/w "Cry For A Shadow" (instrumental).
