Off Road - Overlanding - Camping Adventure Pics

Post up some pics of your off road camping adventures and tell us something about them.

SE Utah is one of our favorite places to go off road exploring/camping. Soooooo many trails and dirt roads to get lost on.

Nothing too extreme because the truck is my daily driver and boat hauler, and we're usually out in areas where we might not see anyone for a day or two so we don't want to end up broke down

Here's a few from a couple different trips.

These were taken several years ago, on a day trip fishing with a buddy. (Northern Colorado Rockies)

We passed her and her calf on the way down to the lake. A little while later, she comes down to feed on the grass in the lake. Right where 2 other fishermen were. They obligingly moved for her. Don't have pictures of that as I'd sent my buddy to the car for the camera. She stayed there, eating for a while, and then took a swim to the middle of the lake. Came out very close to another fisherman, who didn't move a muscle.

Here are a few from one of our off road day trips. This one was on the Alpine Loop in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado in early June a few years ago. Engineer Pass and Cinnamon pass both top out at 12,000 feet.

Nice pics. Looks like you have a nice, compact setup for 2 there.

Thanks!

We've learned to travel with only the stuff we really need so it works pretty well for us. And, it's super comfortable for sleeping.

We're usually good for 3 nights, mostly because I need to add some kind of additional water storage.

Not exactly off-road and not exactly overlanding, but still...

Driving to Wildomar Off-Highway Vehicle area and to Wildomar Campground via forest route 7S03 Los Alamos Trail in Santa Ana Mountains (SoCal).

You can get to these locations via a longer paved road, which is rutted and washed out at some places, but can be navigated in a regular car:

This is the most recent trip. I was trying to sort out some shade situation in the picture. It needs refinement, but it should be workable. Have some doubts that a pull out awning would last very long out here. The ez-ups turn into confetti at a rapid pace.

The pop-up camper is ~1K Lbs. Gear is ~500 Lbs. The narrow, low profile has cleared plenty of bush and tree branches. With all of the weight forward, there is a good amount of towing capacity left. Not even close to being a good off-road machine, but well adapted to just chill on the surf for a few days. You can see a farm-crafted generator box in the back and factory installed 5K A/C unit.

Reminds me of the beach on Galveston Island, back when I lived there.

That would be be good guess and I wasn't too far away. Quit dealing with the Galveston and Crystal beach scene long ago. Hit Surfside and another local beach on this trip.

I avoided the east-end of Galveston like the plague, and would drive all the way to San Luis Pass to find a deserted stretch for my dog and a 6-pack. But, I haven't lived down there in a decade...

Looks fun. Shade can be a real problem for sure. No quick driftwood shack material around? That’s what we usually do, or inhabit one someone has already made.

Usually makes for a sturdy windbreak and and anchor for a tent or sunshade as well. Can’t wait for summer, love beaches, gonna hit some up north this year I think.

The dogs love it out here as much as we do. Too many people in that area on the weekends that don't know how to party. Then there is the doing too much with enforcement that comes with that scenario. Have you ever ventured further down the coast?

The idea of setting up a drift wind block is a good idea and I've never seen that. I like to re-position and re-locate often through the day, so things happen that appeal to that. The wind isn't so much of an issue compared to the brutality of the mid-day sun.

I'm attached to a piece of drift on the third point at the ground. Found a robust screw anchor that I will try out on the next trip. Most of the adjustment experiments was figuring out how to anchor to the rig. All three points have a spring snap and It takes 5 minutes to put this mess in storage. This is the first attempt, so who knows what V2 will look like?

Visited Mother Ocean again for a few days. ~$120 in diesel and everything else needed was on the truck. I didn't need the shade and there was no fussing with the gear. Any camping neighbors dropped to zero on a weekday. Aside from being on the crazy highway, the entire trip was very chill.

You can see hoof prints in the sand. The horses love it out here.

Your pic really caught my eye!

I am too stupid to make the pics line up. But similar composition!

Did some fishing up north a couple weeks back, met some friends at a lake in the middle of nowhere. A few nights of campfires, beer, fishing, and just general hanging around for a few nights before we went our separate ways again; we live really far away from each other so these trips sure don't happen like they used to.
