Oh boy.. here we go again.. Kef 107's

Okay all is well. He was out for the evening and I was right that he just got home. I am about to leave to go pick them up!!

:lurk::grnbounce:yippy::grnbounce:worthless

I'm sure we're all waiting for that moment, but trust me when I say it takes a while to get 200lbs worth of speakers out of a truck and setup in a house! ;)

I have a funny feeling it's gonna be a late night for the Canucker!

You bet it's going to be a late night...

I'm pooped! They weren't all that bad to transport and get up here, but now the real fun begins which is fitting them into my listening room with all them damn speakers!!

But that's all right, I have a plan for that. I'm gonna put both sets of Kef 103/3's out in the living room, and then the IMF RSPM Mk IV's are going to move out of their sweet spot (believe me, it takes quite a bit for me to want to do that), and the Kef 107's are going to take the main spot in the room.

Now, I know you guys want pictures, but I'm freakin' POOPED. It's late, I just hauled 200lbs of speakers, and I'm pretty much spent at this time.

However, at least I can fill you in on the experience getting them.

So first of all, the owner is not the original owner, he found these in another city and picked them up. That's okay though, with the condition they're in and considering he has the original boxes (well, except the one for the hats), he may as well have been. I'll get into that in a little bit.

Anyhow, this guy has some serious audio equipment. Hooked up to the Kef 107's was a Marantz 2500. He had some amazing gear in the basement, saw a pair of Altec 19's for the first time!! He also has some Altec A7W Magnificents in 9/10 condition. ALL of his audio gear is in almost mint condition, this guy is a real stickler for quality! On the Kef's, he played some Tom Jones quickly just for me to hear the speakers and all drivers are definitely sounding like they're firing on all cylinders. The bass was equal between the two from my short hearing inspection.

From what I did hear though, I think I can see what you are saying about the bass Doug.. I think I'm in for a real treat.. I don't know if it will better the RSPM's bass, but, I think it may be different, and it may be a kind of different that I prefer more than the RSPM's. However this was from literally 10 seconds of listening so I can't draw any conclusions, but boy did I like what I heard!

As for the condition, I actually had a hard time finding a single mark, dent, scratch, anything on them. Once I have a better look over them I'll go into more detail with that but seriously, I think these are 10/10, and if not AT LEAST 9.5/10. They are GORGEOUS. They are indeed a walnut finish, and with a little oil these puppies are going to look brand spankin' new.

For the price I paid, I definitely scored big time. I paid under market, bought them from honestly the nicest guy I have EVER met, and they came mint, with boxes, Kube, the whole shebang.

I'm in British speaker heaven.

Now, I know you guys want pics but you're gonna have to wait. :D Hehehe. Good things come to those who wait! :)

Okay you called it..

I couldn't resist. I pulled them into the listening room, boxes and all.

Lord all mighty that was a workout and a half! But here the 107's sit in my listening room.

I can't turn them up much since it's really late but, of what I am hearing, oh my...

That's all I'm gonna say for now. No pics yet, those will be tomorrow. But.. I think I need at least one of these..

Sounds like you've had an exciting and exhausting night. Get some rest. Looking forward to some pics later.

:thmbsp:

You up yet?

Barely :boring:

Here's a quick shot before I head off. These speakers are gorgeous!

Good to hear everything came together in perfection for ya Canucker!!! I know you will enjoy these things! I certainly do!!! :music:

And wow, great story about the seller. You close enough to maintain a relationship? Sounds like he has and gets some nice gear, and its always good to know someone like that to get stuff he wants to let go of! ;)

PS: Did you check those bass bins? :scratch2:

those are HUGE speakers!

I was thinking the same thing about the RSPM's!!! Not sure I could fit those into my listening room!

As Frommer pointed out, the R107's are tall and deep but not too wide.... and because the Bass Port comes out the top they are a LOT more forgiving for room placement. Plus I like the fact you can square them up and then rotate the heads to get the perfect alignment to your seat. :thmbsp:

Actually yes, when I saw all the audio gear I told him that he had to check out AK and also if he needed any pointers about vintage gear that I'm willing to help. He hasn't done any restoration work before so I'm sure he will eventually need some help there. He seems to be in the process of selling off some gear too so I'm sure he will keep me in mind.

As for the bass bins not yet. I think I'm gonna tackle that today after work after I've had a nap, lol.

Man you're telling me.. the RSPM's are big, and the R107's sitting next to them do not look small at all!!

Well I am VERY pleased to report that the surrounds on the bass woofers are just fine!!

I thought for sure they would be rotting, but nope, they are soft and intact!

No refoam for me just yet. Going to enjoy these, reflow the T33's, and oil up the cabs. :)

Yep! I'm really happy about it. I was a little worried I had to refoam them first but, nope, I get to enjoy these for a bit. Talk about fortunate! This is a dry climate so I am pretty elated about that.

OK, just oiled up these cabs, they are beauts!! Turned out awesome, I just used feed-n-wax, no restor-a-finish this time.

I'm not sure how well you can see it there but, it enriched the colors and made the cabinets shine. :)

Those are juicy looking..............................Good taste young man in a total speaker.

Thanks Wes! The elegant styling of these speakers is like you say, juicy.. I can't take my eyes off of them. The entire speaker from top to bottom is beautiful.. and the sound... ohh the sound..

When the AR's are all fixed up, we'll get together at my place and you can come check out the collection :thmbsp:
