I'm not sure where he lives. It's my buddy (who is into WAY high end stuff compared to me) that dealt with him..... but I'm 99% sure he said that ebay "Mono" was a guy named Ming from that general area....
 
There was one of those listed on CL in Denver about a year ago. The guy didn't know what it was but after a few calls from concerned citizens letting him know what it was, he figured out that it was worth more than what alot of people was offering him. I never saw back on CL and I don't think it was sold on eBay so I don't know if he sold it or not.

Its possible I come across it a lot. Just found a pair of Lowther speakers on the trash pile in the garage at an estate sale. People just don't know. You know how many rare speakers are tossed because of rotted foam?

I just wish I could find that Scott on the trash pile, one of my dream radios but them there knobs look hideous on it :yes:
 
His name is Chong. I do quite a bit of business with him on vintage W.E., Altec, and JBL gear. Great to deal with- however you will get no great bargains- he knows what he has. He pays good money for the best gear and makes it right before offering it for sale.
 
I'd like to know where he finds all his stuff.. THe A5's I had looked at were like new looking, and he had also had a pair of A4's for sale a year or so ago...
 
I tried that on my wife.. but she just wouldn't buy it.. I told her in another 10 years it would be worth probably close to double that price.. a hell of an investment.. but she said we'll probably be dead in another 10 years... hell.. most the poeple in my family lived to close to 100, and I'm not half way there..

I don't get it.. I can't get her to make an investment lilke this.. but she has talked me into buying $30K worth of motorcycles.. I'll never understand women..

i'm with you on this. i buy gear for function, not to collect 'objets' this is nice gear though, i know, but were i a 'collector', i would expect 'pristine' for 8k and this is not that.
a grand worth of serious components and duplicate the housing in one's choice of materials and you'd have a sweet setup to 'experience the music'.

You'll get a lot more out of those than a big ole honkin' piece of JBL furniture speakers.

Paul, your wife seems like a real sweetheart. I'll wager her 'tolerance' has a lot to do with the fact that your 'hobby' probably involves wise investment more than pi$$ing away huge amounts of money on useless and redundant gear. That, and the fact that you seem to treat her pretty well..

The secret is to live with/marry a musician. Mine is really into this stuff- tubes and all. Our third system in the den/office is all hers- a Golden Tube Audio SI-50 mk II Integrated (w/upgraded parts), Roksan Kandy CD, Linn LP-12 w/ Ekos arm, and a pair of Duntech PCL-15 Dutchess speakers. For combo Valentine's Day/Birthday last year I gave her a NOS quad of original U.K. Gold Lion KT77s- (I'm just a hopeless romantic)- she heard and appreciated the difference instantly. She plays guitar, bass, and trumpet- has her Mesa guitar rig and a 70s Ampeg SVT bass rig--all tubes.
 
My wife is pretty forgiving too.. Had huge altecs in the living room for a long time until I got tired of them.. lots of tube amps, gear in the garage and basement.. I'm lucky, but she draws the line at 8 grand..
