Ohighway - My Family Room System

I love the idea of stereo gear inside the fireplace....mostly because mine needs a complete rebuild! Thanks for the idea, I think I'm just going to seal off the chimney and place my gear inside. BTW, nice stuff and the room is beautiful.

Almost. In fairness the Klipschorns should have a flat wall extending out from either side of the speaker for several feet to take full advantage of their abilities. So mine is a tradeoff ...... performance versus other considerations.... like the view, room access, etc.

Corner built in speakers .... triangular cross section columns floor to ceiling...... THAT would probably be the hot lick...
 
I agree that is a really nice room and must be a lot of fun with those Khorns.

I know its not practical with the family using the room, but if you ever get a chance try pushing the couch and other furniture out of the room temporarily, or at least to the back of the room to see how things sound in that room without all the extra baggage.

Eh. Maybe. Sometime.... There's no curtains covering the doors and windows so the room might be overly "bright" without any furniture. The K-horns are tall enough to project the sound over most of the "baggage".
 
Nothing is ever permanent around here...... Currently experimenting with Allison speakers. Allison One and Allison Two to be exact. Wonderful speakers but proper placement kills the view a bit. :sigh:

In the picture are the Allison Two speakers closest to center, then moving out the Allison Ones, then the Klipschorns, and off to the sides are a pair of IMF TLS-80 speakers. (currently out of service)

So we're putting a wood stove in the basement for heating duties. (Regency 2400 FWIW) It'll be easier to feed wood into the basement on a regular basis. The family room fireplace will be for "wood burning" decoration only. To try and keep the efficiency up ( or more accurately, the inefficiency down ) I had them plumb a fresh air inlet to the fireplace. So, once the glass door is closed it'll be a closed system, hence won't be pulling any combustion air from the Family room.

That's the way our Family Room FP works, even has a damper on the fresh air inlet.
 
Thanks. It's an ever changing scene out those windows. There's half the amount of leaves on the trees than there were a few days ago when that picture was taken.... The room is very bright during the winter.

Sitting in the light colored chair I can attest to just how good this system sounds with the Allison Two's. Stupid wonderful at volume in this room.:thmbsp:

Scott, you didn't miss out on much of anything that day because the Allison Twos weren't up to snuff. That day I was still struggling along with that defective midrange driver. The 'loaner' midrange from my buddy didn't show up till the Friday after the event. Only when that was in place was I able to play them at any decent volume level. You're not too far away, stop by anytime.

Not lately. You bringin' some with you ? :D

I had my MG 1.4 in here briefly. I really like 'em, but they're too small for this room.
