Ohm A's -- LA / Eagle Rock CL

those are the biggun's, i believe! seems like a nice deal if they're in functional shape, obviously there are some cosmetic issues though.

Man, I cannot believe my luck. Ohm F's on St. Louis CL, Altec VOTT's in Iola, KS both in my neck of the woods and now a Ohm A???!!!! OK the A is in LA but they are so rare I'd drive to the ends of the earth to pick it up...if I had the money.

Times are hard and folks are letting go of their audio treasures and in some cases at bargain prices. And of course I'm broke too!!!!!!!!!

That's a very rare find MaxSeven. Thanks for sharing that with us.

Well these are the biguns and a pair of them to boot. What a horribly written ad.

I like the looks of the F a lot better. These just look to short for the footprint.

But they are the top Ohm of the time and if they sound better than the F they are gonna be a great sounding speaker. New owner needs to be able to repair these as the description, or what I could get through of it, leads me to believe there is a lot of performance not in em right now.

Interesting price and interesting speaker, but you might want to take a breather. Fixing the A's won't be cheap. The F's sound better - we used to a/b these at Tech Hi fi...the A's went deeper, but using a Phase Linear 400, the F's seemed to be the better speaker. I had the F's for a long time - still have the original brochure, always thought about the A's, if one ever came up, but bought a pair of the I's instead. Always liked the Ohm line - still have the I's, but almost time to move on.

I have no traveling plans but I'd be honored to hold 'em in the KC area for an interchange point if needed. I'd love to just see one.

Understood about the cost. And I know I can probably get better sound out of a Walsh 5. I don't care, I want A's.

I've got a nice pair of F's (and 4's, and ...).

Anybody? Anybody?

Interesting and right down the road from me!

What do you check for when looking at Ohm's?

What kind of deal is this?

I don't have much experience with this model. Thanks for your advice.

With these, surrounds and voice coils. I'd assume the drivers need refurbishing. $600 is a steal, although they probably won't be cheap to refurbish. I think Dale Harding in Ohio get's something on the order of $1500 per driver. These things are extremely rare.

I'd urge you to buy them. If you don't want them or like them, I do.

I pinged the seller, but haven't gotten any response yet.

I just sent an email so we will see. If he calls, I'll go out for a look.

I assume you are talking about the tweeter when you say voice coils?

When looking at the tweeters, what should I be aware of?

There are no tweeters, only the single driver. It either works or it doesn't, but I'm sure it will need foam either way. If you look at the top of the driver, the voice coil is inside the magnet at the top. There is a 'spider' that holds things centered, that spider tends to sag on these due to the weight of the cone.

If you want them, hook up an amp, but assume they need foam at the least, and a full driver rebuild would be expected.

I would very much like them, as is, no need to test them, so feel free to grab them and bring them home with you. I'll pay you for your troubles if you end up not wanting them, or find they're going to be more to refurbish than you care to pay.

Hi bshorey:

Thanks for the tips and thanks for the offer. I will DEFINITELY keep you in mind. If the VC is sagging, will that be audible? How efficient are they? And, assuming the amp is operating properly, what should they sound like?

Sam.
