Ohm F4 and RTR 280-DR value

Personally, I'd pass on the RTR's. If local, I'd be very tempted on the F4's. You would need a big amp to power them though..
 
If I get them, they will either be tubed or on a DMB BX-3 MKII which will have plenty to push them. Have you heard either of these speakers? What's the strong and week points?
 
I haven't heard F4's, but have heard F, F2, Walsh 4's and F5's. Ohm Walsh speakers are usually a love hate thing. They have room pounding bass, , but the omni directional quality is something some people don't like. As I said they will require lots of power.. Best at 250 plus watts. Tube will are not a good choice with Walsh's

These are priced really good and I would consider them a good investment at $300.

The RTR's I heard, but had RTR electrostats stacked on top and never heard them on their own. Sounded good, but not sure if its a good deal and how they sound on their own. Again a omni directional speaker.
 
I can vouch for the RtR 280's - I had a pair back in the 70;s and they sounded great. Speakers on three sides and a downward firing 10" sub in each of them. Very heavy. I powered them with a Dynaco 70, then a Marantz 2275. They can take a lot of power. $450 is not a steal, but they were expensive back then. They are very well made.
