OHM model F $400.00 for the pair, somebody please rescue them on the East Coast!

Uh thank God, I'm not close! Cuz as I understand from a thread current on here, they would need to be refurbed ... and it did not sound uh inexpensive!

Glad I'm in NV. But hopefully someone here that has the resources to do them justice will rescue them! :)

I wonder if such poor condition is worthy of the ask

There are better sounding speakers for the price of these plus the rebuild.

Maybe those that would get them would like the looks and sound enough to pay the premium needed to make these like new again.

Had a set in one of the stereos in a house in college. Nice but not enough sound power for me back then.

Hopefully someone will get these back to correct and enjoy them.

The restoration on these is not for the faint of heart, and not inexpensive. While most of us can restore drivers on conventional speakers, the Ohm F's are a different breed. I have only seen one pair up close and personal that had been restored professionally, And I saw why the owner used a professional service to perform the restoration.

And there are only a couple/few that do this professionally that are known to the community.

That's what's sad ...The artisan / Craftsman's skills to perform the work necessary is so rare, you'd almost think it was like pyramid building 5000 years ago.....?.. Frustrating
Oh but we're so knowledgeable today LOL

I jest but... too bad it's akin to rocket science with the generation of people alive today.

I talked with a tech who services these and said it wasn't as difficult as most people think. Even the putty inside the cone. I wish I didn't part with mine.

Well like I said Im glad they are not near me! Cuz I don't view them, as I can get something that works for $ 400 bucks??

Those are I see as much like getting a 73 cuda Hemi, for a couple grand cuz you know the block is cracked and stuff?? Well for a couple grand you can buy something that runs! But as I say ... "I don't always make good choices, kinda like. :

You obviously love them way more than I do. Nice but for the couple grand, is that what it will be all fixed up?, there are to me better choices. One main reason is that they need 200 watts to get em going and they fail when getting 201 watts. I want to be able to crank and not worry about something needing repair when done.

I don't know the exact cost for repairs, but it would not be cheap $$$$! Hmmm Ok I had to look they are still supported by Ohm! And .. it looks like if one would chose to let the original driver go cost of repair looks to be not that bad. They seem to update and not exactly repair them.:
https://ohmspeaker.com/legacy-products/f/

And yeah 200 watts to drive them and 201 to blow-em up! Most likely that is why I got a set of Walsh Ohm 2's for 75 bucks! Blown tweeter in one of them 1255 watts to drive them 126 to blow-em up??? :)

But once repaired I have no plans to use them as a party speakers. I got better tools for that kinda stuff.

It sounds like they were never the proper speaker for you and what it is you wanted to do with?? That is not really about the speakers it, is about how you chose to use them?? But hey when I get my pair of much more modest Ohm's fixed ... I'll find out for myself. :)

At any rate, hopefully someone can save them or mostly it would be landfill city for them and that would be a shame. :(

Well yeah most likely I do! But that is besides the point. And although not currently playing, I am a Walsh Ohm, full disclosure as it were. :)

Better choices kinda depends first on what you need/want! And with what you want to do with your speakers?? And for you, honestly they would have been a pretty poor choice?? Any number of speakers for a lot less than those cost come to mind, but back on point.

If one were to chose to get those puppies unless something radically, changes in the marketplace, refurbing those guys is a money losing proposition! But I am a car guy ... so you know ... money down a pit hole, means squat to me. I do stuff because I can, good enough!

But ... I did not know Walsh still supported them! Now if one wants the "original driver" repaired ... that is big bucks!! How much exactly, I don't know?? But it would not be cheap! But if one simply wants a working pair of Walsh Ohms F's, well it's still not cheap but most likely it could be done for uh ... about 2500 to 3000 grand plus or minus 500 buck??

I think that is a realistic budget?? I base that guesstimate. on the fact that, Ohm just ash cans the original driver! As it turns out, from the factory, it detached from the basket and or magnet upon delivery?? There is a thread on here somewhere with details but it was a known failure point. Something about the glue?? So Ohm's refurb for $1500 bucks ... replaces the original driver and problem solved!

But at this point the caps would have to be replaced. I don't know if they do that as part of the 1500 bucks so plus or minus ... 500 bucks??? And unless one lives near the factory ... they are gonna have to be shipped in whole maybe?? But Ohm's are kinda odd and the top half is most likely removable?? (I have never seen a pair so I don't know) but if they are you'd only have the top half to send, to them. So that's not to bad but it would still not be cheap! And I think the crossover is in the bottom so the old caps would still be there but I don't know???

So at any rate, price of purchase 400 bucks plus 1500 bucks for the upgrade w/o shipping! At least 2 grand, right there. So it's not really what you can get for $400 bucks for these that don't work but really what can you get for 2 grand that does work! :)

But ... still not done! The crossover caps still need to be addressed, they maybe a Diy job for the hard core?? There is a thread on here on the Walsh Ohm Two and it was done ... not easy but it is doable for the able. :)

But ... regardless of that, the original driver have to get to Ohm. Most likely they do come off and can be shipped?? That can't be cheap but maybe $ 250 each way??? So I get to $2500 plus or minus and a question mark on the crossover?? So a budget of between 2 and 3 grand plus or minus 500 bucks at the least to get them up and running, I think that is realistic a budget??

But again they are much like a project car and the price of purchase ... is only the beginning. So yeah ... not really a good value for most folks?? But for a die hard fan with the means to do them justice, those are still deal! :)

But in any case, if your still doing what you did with your original pair?? I'd be pretty sure you'd get the same results?? If your not gonna change what you do ... get different speakers. Cuz these are not for you. But thanks for posting in anycase ... I hope someone here can save them! :) `

Chip, there is only one voice coil in an Ohm F so no crossover.
On the F, the top, the driver comes off the base and since going back as a core, it can just be boxed and shipped. Then on this pair the bases need to be addressed for condition and made presentable. Then the new Walsh parts come in and you put the thing back together and have an F2000 or whatever level was purchased to replace the F driver and you don't have an Ohm F anymore.

I have better speakers I paid the same for that have volume and slam limitations I can live with so for the added cost of the rebuild, the only option in my mind, not a different speaker with Ohm parts, other speakers are available for less. Even though I have Millersound in my backyard and Ohm just up the road a few hours. If Millersound is still rebuilding the driver.

To whoever purchased these if you looked close at the drivers, the titanium section was crumpled close to the spider... hence they have been over driven.

You could restore them to have wonderful speakers played at moderate levels but I would not push them very hard.

As far as Ohm, the only thing Mr Strohbeen wants to do is sell you a non Walsh speaker downgrade only to destroy another set of Ohm F true Walsh drivers.

If you want a true set,... have Dale Harder rebuild them, @ $5k for a pair to be rebuilt you will have a new set of F's

WOW well I must say ... thank you for the inside information!! I have never heard or seen things?? But I have (heard) of them! And yes the "update/mod" would be just that (something else)... so yeah strictly speaking no longer an "F." :(

But hey for some a working ... "replica," would be better than a dead original?? And yes for the money spent either way update or refurbish, mostly, these days, one can do better?? Aww well I'm thankful they are nowhere near me ironically. Cuz I have a bad habit of dragging "projects" home ... my bad?? :(

I lusted after a pair for the longest time... found a pair cheap (400) that needed work then couldn’t find anyone to restore them for me ( I did hear about the $5000 guy..was too much for me to invest). Wound up selling them for the same 400 as these
