Ohm Walsh 2.2000 upgrade worth it?

It has been too long since i've posted on here. I started seeing someone and lost sight of what is really important...

Anyway I have Ohm Walsh 1's which are pretty cool but I am considering throwing down for the upgraded drivers which will convert them into Walsh "2.2000" which is supposedly equivalent to the Walsh 2000 speaker.

Obviously, this would be a big upgrade over the 1's. But would that money be better spent on a completely different set of speakers instead of upgrading the ones I have?

Also, is the change reversible? It would be nice to try it out before committing to it since Ohm has a satisfaction guaranteed policy. From the looks of it, I might need to drill some additional holes. Maybe there's some clever way to clamp it on there.

One last concern. When I got the Walsh 1's the top baffles were in terrible shape so I pried them off and milled some out of MDF with a router. Would putting woodscrews into straight MDF without some sort of anchor be a mistake?

Really, I'm just looking for any thoughts/opinions from anyone that happens to have done the upgrade.

i havent had the upgrade but you do need to send the old drivers back to ohm within 60 days. you would need to talk to John about returning the new ones after they have been installed if you dont like them. my guess is that they would take them back

I had my Walsh 2s upgraded 2 years ago . I have no regrets it takes the 2 s from good to great . My system is work in progress and the Ohms reveal all my improvements . A much recommended upgrade .

I call bs. Look at the Youtuber who just purchased the Upgrade kit for his normal 2s. Ruined the wounderful, forward, and airy midrange and highs. Think the buyers of them are experiencing placebo. My 2XOs have these massive, doulbestacked magnet motor assembly, and inverted dome tweeter that are far better in quality than the newer tweeters they use now. Seems to also be vented on the back. Incredible response, top to Buttom. They make no error in sound. They are not monitors, they are music makers. Small, smooth natural peaks in the upper mids can be a very good thing. Seems something happened with the newer Walsh models that lost some of their magic

The Ohms are a very musical speaker indeed . i had none of the issues the person in the video had in my room and set up . At this time i have moved on from the Ohms
Now i am using a pair of Klang & Ton NADA speakers built from a Madisound kit . I use a multiple subs in my room for great bass response

Its wasn't an issue, but a difference in response doing a direct A/B comparison. The younger guy who sometimes answers the phone at Ohm Acoustics said don't upgrade my pair, he said that the drivers sound pretty mutch same in the same cabinet even on the original 2s or 2XOs. But my particular drivers where a later, very nice custom built upgrade by Ohm. The tweeter is inverted mylar. Vented 360degrees in the rear with no blocking material. New driver serial # stickers where attached to cans aswell. The 2000 drivers for sure have pulled back highs and don't image quiet aswell overall. I wouldn't say that compared to the very early Walsh 2s. But some of the later ones.

This custom build is from around the late 1990s early 2000s according to John Strohbeen. CLS Driver looks much later aswell, much more massive basket, beefier motor, and magnet compared to normal Walsh 2s or 2XOs. Highs are crisper, precise, and quiet extended on these awesome tweeters aswell!
