I've always wanted a pair of Ohm Walshes and a pair has come up for sale. Black Walsh 3's in great condition...convince me to spend the $275.00 because I can't bring myself to do it just yet...maybe after a beer once I get home. That seems to always help...:scratch2: :beer:

Well consider how infrequently they become available, and in as you state great shape. Thi is pretty much a no-brainer as if you must turn them over for this price you will surely recoup all of your cost.I had the 2s ,they were pretty decent little speakers.I don't see how you can wrong unless money is tight at this time?

For that money, and if with decent cosmetics, yes you need them. If they are indeed 3's, then they should have cloth surrounds. However, if 3XO's, then they will have foam surrounds that will need replacement. If not now, at some point in their future. A pretty spendy prospect to have done properly.
Wonderful speakers, fairly rare, quite power hungry (150-200wpc min to open them up), kinda inefficient (87db?), but may have the effect of ending your search for more speakers when properly driven and set up.

got the email back, they are model 3's with cloth surrounds. Nice. I'll check them out tomorrow and I should be posting pics soon. they're goin to be powered by a pioneer elite vsx-07tx. It's the best I've got for now...should be enough? I've gone from CV dx7s, jbl L5, jbl L7, JBL 4320(ish) mirage omni150, and now to Ohms. Should be interesting!
Well, I got them home last night and spent a solid 3 hours listening to these beautiful black monoliths. Space is limited so they were about 1 ft forward from the back wall, 2 ft back from the foot of my bed and queen bed width apart. with the listening position front and center at the head of the bed. (I know, I know.)
After getting them home, I wanted to make sure they are really Model 3's and not 3X0's, so I pulled one of the cans, took it apart and found what I wanted to see. (See picture)
They are being driven by a Yamaha RX-E100 (40wpc, 20-20,000hz, <0.1THD) and CDX-E100 (Again, I know...I know)
Truth be told, I am pleasantly surprised. I remember hearing Walsh 2's about 4 years ago and being impressed, but not nearly as much as when I heard a pair of L7s properly set up. For the past few months, I have been listening in the near field to a pair of NHT SuperOnes
music so I was anticipating listening to the ohms to take some getting used to. I was wrong. The detail and smoothness of female voices is just breathtaking. Duffy's 'syrup and honey' is a great reference. Most speakers I've auditioned (especially the Omni550's, with the exception of the custom cab'd JBL4320s) tend to get lost, so to speak, as her voice is a little raspy and the fast transitions blur (hard to explain, sorry). Every instrument (the high-hat especially) and effect (the motorcycle in Queen's ride the wild wind) are so real. Harry Conick Jr's Come By Me album was probably the best showcase for these speakers.
I didn't have Dave Brubeck's Take Five album, so i went out and got it, thinking it would be just the ticket for these speakers. It sounded good, as expected, but I was disappointed with the amount of fuzz or white noise in the background of the track. (I even got the new, remastered version...:scratch2
They do lack the hard hitting bass I like though. That crisp, knock-on-your-chest-plate bass. And Yo Yo Ma cello pieces lacked the depth due to "shallowness" of the low notes. Although, some more watt based headroom should clear that up. Tomorrow they move to a different room, with 115wpc so it should be a new game.
I'm no good at explaining what speakers sound like, but these sound damn good to me and my ears! I will post more speaker porn here soon. If any Ohm owners care to chyme in with tips of the trade or reference material, I'd really appreciate it!
