Ohm Walsh 4s OAK on epay

Here's a interesting article on a homemade speaker based on the Ohm Fs: http://www.decware.com/radial.htm

What's puzzling me now is what made my Fs clip on the cannons during the 1812 Overture? Was it the recording on CD, my NAD C272 amp or the speaker not being able to handle it?

It was a combination of the three. I am surprised the speakers survived.

I asked him if 1,000 watts would be enough to cleanly reproduce the cannons from 1812 with a pair of Walsh 5s... he said no. He said demanding recordings a Walsh will clip almost any ampliier. John has clipped a 3,000 watt Crown Macro Reference amp with Walsh 200s playing opera that was recorded a bit to closely with the microphones. Take into account that the Fs require much more power, and can handle much less, and it is a recipe for disaster.

I still can't believe people say these fry easily. I think they take a phenomonal amount of power, as long as it is clean.

I really have grown to like electrostats, but I cannot imagine a day that I would give up Fs. Further, if I ever see As for sale at a realistic price, they will be mine.

You know the fuse that blew on the 1812 was from the other speaker which did not blow a fuse when I had it in bridge mode by accident. Considering the load on that old fuse (it was one of the original ceramic ones) it may have weakened by the original clipping. However the Fs really can't take the load from the cannons, so the 1812 Overture (and it wasn't even the Telarc one) is off limits for my Fs. :(

I haven't dared play Nugent again on them (though I did really crank it on Hammerdown when I first blew a fuse in bridge mode), guess I will wait a wait a while to try old Ted again......

Right now I am cranking the Ohm C2s with the "Theme From Cat People", just hooked them up today to the Sansui G-6700 receiver I bought a couple of weeks ago. Maybe I might try 1812 on them....... :naughty:
