Ok. Here is the first of many questions...

...drives a Dodge ; )
After deciding to re-foam my JBL L150a's myself, I proceeded to take step one and remove the woofers. First problem: I removed the 4 screws on the front, and... well, how do you get the woofers out? Do I have to take the back off? How does the back come off? There are nothing apparently holding the back on (glue?).

I don't want to ruin the speaker trying to pull it out, but it doesn't appear to be budging for anything.

God I am so lame!!!

I have had good luck by bending the end of a nail a right angle and putting it into the existing holes and pulling. If unnecessary you can use it as a lever to on all the holes and slowly work it loose.

Good luck.

If you have the screws out then just whack the back of the cabinet with a BFH, I use an 8lb sledge. :D

Just fabricate a small hook/prybar from what you have at hand...the aforementioned nail, a small screwdriver, one of the wife's knitting needles, etc. Use it in the screw holes and pop the critter loose. Make sure you have a hold on it with the other hand. You don't want it to pop out and fall possibly damaging the driver, cabinet, wiring, or your feet.

There is usually some sort of air-sealant-gasket that is probably holding the woofer tight to the enclosure. Very gently pry around the edges and it may just "pop" loose.

Yup. A thin, flat-blade screwdriver or a (bio)chemist's weighing spatula is a great asset to speaker removal. Another handy tool, though a bit less robust, is an old dentist's pick.

Success!!!

Only a little blood on the radiator when I sliced my finger pulling it out.:sigh:

Now, could anyone possibly link me to a good thread here concerning refoaming, step by step?

I used search forums, but after paging thru 8 pages of said material, I couldn't find what I'm looking for....

Thanks BIG TIME to everyone for helping this uber-newbie in his first ever project!

Excellent stuff guys!

My head is swimming w/info! ;)

I was wondering what is the preferred method for cutting the dust cap to shim... Any difference cutting it out, or to leave a "hinge" as shown at the JBL site....?

I have 2 woofers cleaned of their old surrounds.

:)
