OK not hard to figure out what Maxell UD/LN 35 series tape is about. But what about some of the other series numbers that pop up? Like the 50 series?

I won a bunch of tape on eBay tonight and the guy screwed up he listed 1 more tape then he actually has and he offered me a Maxell 50-60 to make up the difference. I got 6 Maxell 35-90 UD/LN + the 50-60 for $8.65 so I don't mind finding out what it is even if it ends up a usable box!

But I'd like an idea of what it is.

My school bought 50-60 back in the day....the box that once held a case is still in the tech booth years later.....

That's all I know about 50-60 :D

Yea a cruise through eBay and some close up photo's of a 50-60 box told me what I needed to know.

in 35-90 the 35 refers to the thickness of the tape in Microns. So a 50 series tape instead of being 1 mil thick is 1.5mil and only 2400 ft or 62 min per 7" reel fit.

I don't know if the tape is UD/LN or one of the XL's but in any case it will be here in a week or so.

The "35-90" means: 35 micron tape thickness, and 90 minutes of 4-track stereo record-time at 7.5 ips.

The "50-60" means: 50 micron tape thickness, and 60 minutes of 4-track stereo record-time at 7.5 ips.

So basically, it is just the 60 min version of the same tape. :thmbsp:
