OK, I'm Confused!

Advent fried-egg tweeters: I read somewhere that the green tweeters are an upgrade of the orange ones, but I see green ones with the old-style masonite surround and orange ones with the later flush mounting. So is there any difference between the orange and green ones and if so, what? :dunno:

Green ones better than orange ones? That's a new one for me!

My take, is that if ANYTHING, the green ones were more oftentimes used in the smaller speakers... so they MIGHT POSSIBLY just have thinner paper material in the domes (less mass). If so, they might be better up top, but less capable down low (near the crossover point of the woofer). But, this is pure speculation... nobody I know, has found ANY documentation of anything like this...

Regards,
Gordon.

I have a pair of orange tweeters that came out of a pair of Small Advents. I understand the SA's were supplied with both green and orange tweeters. So would the orange tweeters I have be the same those in the original Advents? It's my understanding that the "new" Advent (and Advent/1) tweeter are different in several regards to the older ones, aside from the obvious cosmetic differences and that they crossed over at 1500hz vs. 1000hz for the originals. Yes? No? Maybe? - Mark

The thing is, I have seen both green and orange tweeters in the "Original Advent" mounting, and green and orange tweeters in the (presumably newer) "Newer Advent" mounting. So it doesn't look like color has a lot to do with the modernity of the tweeter; on the other hand, I did see somewhere that the green ones are later and have an extended high frequency response. Vast confusion!

I admit to not knowing the difference between the orange and green diaphragms in the tweeters but the magnet structure was made smaller in the smaller Advents to decrease the efficiency of them to match the less efficient woofers. So, the tweeters in the Advent Loudspeaker are not the same as in the Smaller Advent Loudspeaker.

I also have never seen green tweeters in an original Advent and I suspect that if they are present in one, they are not the original tweeters.
