Hard to imagine a woofer from the mid-90's having bad foam. Maybe they're older? Anyway, I've got at least one site bookmarked on my 'puter at work that has foam for small drivers. If you don't get any satisfaction before tomorrow morning, I'll post a link. - Mark
Those cabinets look to be late-'80s vintage, IIRC.
That actually, looks to be a 4.5" or 5" woofer. I have several sizes of 4" through 5.5" surrounds; however, I need fairly exact measurements of the outer diameter of the cone PLUS the outer diameter of the basket, to determine the CORRECT surround, of a driver in this size range. Simply TOO MANY different increments of size, to do by "eyeballing" it...

Thanks, I'll measure it up tonight and post it. Would it make more sense to just replace it? It does look like a good driver. I think it is a 4.5 inch. The cone is about 4 inches and the frame is closer to 5. I'll get exact measurements tonight.
Would it be possible to get rubber surrounds for it? Looks like they would make good out door speakers.
The guy who gave them to me said they sounded great at one time and he has a very good ear. Don’t look to special in any way to me but they have nice solid plastic enclosures and nice adjustable wall brackets and I would like to use these as my rear speakers in a surround setup or for my patio speakers.

Only problem with changing the drivers and/or surround material is you'll likely change the character of the sound. If you mount them away from direct sunlight, the foam surrounds should last quite a while, I would think. I'm basing this on my experience with speakers in my boat, which get exposed to the sun, wind, rain, etc., on a regular basis. - Mark
