OK, Who sniped my Kyocera D-811!!

Man, I hate that sniping software!! I had a cool D-811 in my sights to complete my Kyocera set. I have the R-661 & the da-610cx. With less than a minute left, bidding was at $55.55, so I put in $150.00 figuring I was safe and LOST to a bid of $150.00 because it was an AUTOMATIC BID!

Call me a sore loser, I just don't think this SNIPING S**T software is fair. It may be within the law but it certainly is not in the spirit of fairplay. Yeah, I'm p**ed off. Call me a cry baby:tears: , whatever! I'd just like to see it outlawed so people who actually want the stuff and are there when the auction is LIVE should get it.

Now I have to listen to cassettes on my 5020 or try to win the D-810 coming up. Except, it's broken and doesn't have HX-PRO. Man, I'm really steamed!

I'd love to have this sniper for two minutes:bash: :uzi: :pistols: !!

To whoever got me, all I can say is:finger:

For better or worse, sniping is a fact of life in time-limited auctions such as Ebay.

I personally don't use sniping software (I probably should), but I do use the sniping strategy quite often.

SNIP

Sorry, you didn't lose because it was an autmatic bid, you lost because they bid $150 before you did. Possibly you would have fared better at 151.69? I never bid an even #

actually...

...you didn't get sniped, the other guy put in the same bid as you did, $150, but since his bid preceeded yours, his takes priority. You actually outsniped him, with the last bid at <5 secs before the auction ended (not bad without sniping software!)..you just didn't snipe high enough.

:smoke:

[edit]...i just got post-sniped!

At the end of the day, you put in the number that you're willing to pay. I've gotten sniped and pi$$ed before too, but really, it's not the snipe that kills the deal. Oh, and I'm of the "never an even number" school of thought too.

Take care,

Ed

Absolutely! $150.01 could have won it IF the other guy only bid $150.00 and your max was already entered at $150.01.

The rest of the market values at about $55 so I wouldn't sweat it. This guy who bid $150 actually did you a favor because he is likely out of the game when the next one shows up.

Thanks for all the letters of support(?) So, basically, I've got no one to blame but myself. Price was high for that unit, so yeah, he did me a favor, right(?)
I can pick up that D-810 coming up and repair it good as new, right(?) Ah, what the hell, it's only stereo equipment.

Man, that thing woulda looked sweet next to my 661 & 610cx but I'm good, really! I'm good!

Damn!

The D-811 is a really nice sounding deck. These rarely sell for under $100 though. The 810 is close, but it lacks the HX pro circuit, so it will not record quite as well. But you should be forwarned: These have units have the same problem as many Nakamichi's in terms of their tires wearing-out. If it has not had its tire replaced yet, it probably won't run.

Sounds like you have the right idea. Bottom line? someone else outbid you. Time to move on.

Good luck in your continued search!

Even though you bid 150 max and he won, I suspect his bid was even higher and the ebay software just made him pay the maximum that you bid.

You could have bid 160 and if he sniped it at 200, I suspect he would have had to pay 160 to get it.

Just my humble opinion, and low overall regard for ebay.

Well, I will say two more things, hopefully a bit more constructive.

1. You bid too early. Your bid was several minutes before the end, which leaves plenty of time to bid again. You have to hold till the LAST FEW SECONDS. Otherwise someone else has time to re-bid, and that may lose all control and overbid.

2. You may not like it, but Sniper tools are your friend. I use a service. BidNip.com

Join and they will give you 5 free snipes to start. Then you can buy more bids at 26 cents a pop, or less in higher quantities. If you tell them I referred you (My username @yahoo.com), I’ll also get referral snipes also.

I set my snipes to 4 seconds before end. I’ve won far more than I have lost. Another positive is once you set it, unless you see someone go over your sniped bid early on, you are far less likely to overbid, in the “excitement” of the bidding. Bidding like that is akin to gambling addictions. Don’t go there.

I prefer a service rather than SW on my PC for 2 reasons. I may not be connected when the auction ends, and they have faster servers and connections.

As mentioned, sniping is a fact of life, you can use it or lose to it.

yeah, i gotta agree with outlaw. i've tried sniping 'manually' in the past and i have gotten caught up with auction fever and end up paying more than i had intended. i use a sniper now and it works fine. doesn't cost much, i set it and forget it. and my heart rate doesn't go up, and i don't have to cancel dinner with my SO because i'm watching an auction. sure, it takes some fun out of it, but i get my item more often than not.

Your being childish here EBay is NOT a LIVE auction it is an auction where the highest bid placed within the time frame of the auction wins PEROID.

And to come here to figuratively flip off the highest bidder is childish and being a poor sport.

Fair play where the hell does that rule exist I have never read it anywhere in the world of auctions or dealing with collectibles

NOW I always pay the asking price or I make a counter offer but the seller sets the price. In an auction where the ONLY interest the seller has is to make the MAXIMUM amount possible I have only one goal to pay the least I can.Afterall that would be in my best interest. I never cheat anyone BUT I do use knowledge skill and what ever I can to keep as much of my money in my pocket as possible. So if the rules and the game allows I will use what ever I can to achieve this goal.

I suppose you think bluffing with a pair of Deuce's is cheating in Poker!

Or In football if your team has only players that weigh under 200lbs and run the 100 yard in 11.2 should the team you play sit down their guys 240lbs that run the 100 in 9.8?

grow some and learn how to play the game or learn how to accept the results.

Am I being harsh? A little but you came here with this. Not I

Very good points Mark! Spot on! Very good analogies! I did admit to being a "Crybaby". Guess I just really wanted to vent. I played the game and lost. I was bested and all I can do is gather it up, "grow a pair" and get back in there. Thanks Dude.

By the way, any chance you just came into an 811 that you would like to get rid of? :-)

Capeman If I had one I would gladly sell it to you at only a slight profit. But honestly until you brought this up in Chat a while ago I had never even heard of one and didn't even know the brand name had anything to do with Audio.

Finally got my 811!

My thanks to all my AK'ers who responded to my post, pro & con:tresbon: I finally managed to acquire an 811. A very nice fellow ak'er came to my rescue with a Sweet Kyocera D-811 cassette deck!

He even gave it to me for a couple bucks less than the other one, my thanks!

Now I have that excruciating wait but I'm sure everything will go smoothly:yes:

So, what is the lesson here grasshopper? Good things come to those who wait? :scratch2: or is it you can always depend on the kindness of strangers?:scratch2:

I dunno, now I just need to find an Kyocera RC-101 Remote Control Center. Is there a stranger out there who can help this patient audio obsessed, crazed enthusiast? :guitar:

Yep. I use a chesterfield(7 jewels) stopwatch. Bidding before 5 seconds left in an auction is pointless. If you bid before then you play the role of the lamb just sitting there helpless lol. Play the role of the WOLF! :smoke:
