OLA Tweeter sources?

I sold a fellow my OLA's and he's had a chance to test them, and is finding a problem with the tweeters. He says:

I hooked your speakers up, and heard right away the tweeters are damaged. I double checked by installing my tweeters in your boxes, and they sounded fine.
The distortion shows as a whistling on horn instruments, sort of "kazoo" like.

I want to make good on the deal, so any of you have suggestions as to what might be the problem, further ways to test, and ultimately any good source for replacements? We are in Canada.

My first thought was caps, since I don't think they have been done, but as he says above, with other tweeters the problem disappears.

Yeah that sounds fishy. If you sold these on ebay I would think maybe the guy is trying to get a partial refund.
If they were sold locally it was up to him to make sure they worked before he handed over the cash
 
If you need OLA orange fried egg tweeters, they can usually be found on Barter Town here on AK. You will need to become a subscriber for $25 to gain access to BT and start a WTB thread.
 
Maybe they are buzzing against the protective screen/metal grill. I read that is fairly common.
 
I've had 2 orange fried eggs with exactly the same issue. It presents as a very shrill whistle. A good opera recording will usually show the problem before the end of the first stanza. This is an internal VC problem not easily fixed (by me anyways.)

One of the tweeters I had problems with was an eBay replacement I bought to fix the first tweeter.

This sounds obvious, but if you buy online, remind the seller to pack the things carefully. I had one of these arrive in 2 pieces after the seller boxed up a pair as if they were sneakers. The magnets are heavy and packages are thrown like basketballs at every node in the shipping chain.
 
I recommend Dayton RS28F tweeters. You'll get HF extension beyond the 15 kHz where the vintage units start to roll off. So, if your hearing is quite good, consider the Daytons.
 
Thanks. The fellow picked up the speakers from me direct, and we didn't test them, but I promised if there was a problem, we'd work something out. I was formerly a paid member here, and it's probably time I anted up anyway, so maybe I'll do that. The prices of replacements from commercial sources seem very high, particularly when one factors in the shipping costs. I suppose the best thing to do is have him bring them by, listen to them myself, and see what we can hear. Or I can have him return and refund, and use them the way I was before, until some affordable replacements come up. If ever.
 
Tell me what Ohm those are- I think I have a couple of greenies, fried egg type, I will give you to help out.
