Old School Realistic Receivers

Back when I was a kid, Mom and Dad got me a stereo system from Radio Shack. I was 16. It was an STA-95 with tall speakers, a turntable and a Cassette deck. I was REALLY happy with that receiver. Over the past 15 years I've acquired two STA-95s (my original died) and an STA-2000. I had the 2000 cleaned up and redone. Sounds great. What I'm trying to figure out is just HOW GOOD these receivers are, as I'm thinking about redoing both my STA-95s. I don't want to waste money if it's cheaper to just get something else from that era that is quality and have that one redone. These days I just want to do things right. TIA. J.

Try not to over think things, you've stated your "REALLY" happy with the STA-95 and the STA-2000 "sounds great"

Your ears as opposed to anonymous online opinions are all that matter.

Fwiw they are both well built pieces of equipment built during an era when the engineers were in control. RS outsourced the manufacturing

Plus they are both good looking units.

You could do worse spending more.

Sta2000 was Tandy co I think the sta95 was too , Korean made high quality , very serviceable !

Both quality receivers ! Try a sta2080 you’ll be blown away ! Also made by Tandy co in Korea !

Suppose you're right. And I am the master of over-thinking. That first STA-95, at 45W/Channel, really put out the power. My best bud and I, when the parental units were away, put on Boston's Second Album and cranked it up. Then walked down the street a goodly distance to see how far the system sounded. We were a full block away and could still make it out pretty well. LOL, that was 45 years back! Those poor neighbors! I still play music ridiculously loud. AND play drums to whatever is on (NOT Rush --- I ain't that good)!!!!
