Old speakers with high quality AVR

Appear to be tri amp capable

These seem to sound decent but not great from what I saw from a quick search.

And there are gobs of people who dont like the most popular speakers to.

It looks to be a well made speaker to me and I personally rarely care what the name is on something as when I do, it usually leads to disappointment form brand hype.

If you want to try them make sure the have all the knobs for the connectors as they are hard to come by.

Ok. I have another find. Warfedale W60 for 120 bucks. Opinions? I've looked all over the country for speaker and found these 2 miles from my house. Lol

Ok. Here we go. I hoped for responses on the warfedale w60 speakers. I got nothing. Well I went and took a test drive with them. I honestly had low expectations.
For the 70's rock I I primarily play i figured the low end would not be up to my expectations. I was wrong. I was blown away with the punch of the kick drum they produced. Long story short I walked away with them for 100 bucks.
Here is the kicker. One of the tweets have been changed. The replacement sounded fine but not being the original I want to replace. The mounting plate was utilized with the replacement so everything i need to get a oem or equivalent is there. So I need advice on finding the correct oem or equivalent to install. I also plan on a recap.
I want suggestion on a replacement tweeter and recap. Should I replace caps to spec?
The reason I ask about replacing to spec is I've read that people are changing cap specs to change crossover point to tweeters. I need sound advice.

Just replace the caps with the same values. Unless you really know what you are doing, you have a huge chance to screw them up. And yes, try and fine a replacement tweeter. I had a set of W60s for a short time and was not impressed...BUT that was before I started recapping old speakers. To truly judge them you need to hear them like they were when they came from the factory.

I found a 3/4" section in the corner where the veneer has come up slightly. I didn't notice until I got them home. Its ok it wouldn't have been a deal breaker for me. I want to try and restore them so I'm adding that to one of my challenges. I hit the top of one of them with a little Old English just to see what I have to deal with. I think cosmetically they will look great once I repair the one spot.
So yes I will break into the speaker maybe tonight and do a complete inspection. Start my to do list so to speak.

You'd probably have received more feedback if you had been more interactive about the speakers you mentioned and that people commented on. It would be good to hear why you didn't go with the DCM's, or AR's -- kind of hard to make any suggestions with almost no feedback.

It's great you found speakers you like. Wharfedale make some beautiful speakers. My impression (from not having owned them) is that they are kind of soft on the high end (the "warm" sound) -- hopefully somebody will correct me if wrong -- I need brighter speakers personally, but many prefer the warm sound and if you love them, that's all that matters.

For the restoring the speakers, I would definitely recommend starting a new thread with a subject about suggestions for recapping Wharfedale W60's -- that will get more "eyes" on the information you need (hopefully from someone who has restored w60's) rather than having it buried in this generic thread about speaker selection.

Honestly. I didn't go with DCM or AR because the Warfedales were 5 minutes from my house and I like the sound of them.

Why exactly?

They look nice, but Panasonic isn’t really known for speakers Best to search each speaker you are considering to see what experiences are. These seem to sound decent but not great from what I saw from a quick search.

I suspect the DCMs and ARs you posted earlier would be better. For speakers, it’s better to stick with brands that are known for great sound. The brand list I posted earlier I think should be very safe bets. ADS is excellent too, but may not meet your looks criteria.

I was gonna refer to the posts above. You buying the Wharfedale's settled the issue. I'm glad to hear you like them. They are very well regarded.

Great advise from everyone.I have combined a sansui 771 with B&w 601 s3 I a very small room.they sound better than my sp1500s in the same room.speakers must played with,moved around,until you reach the right sound for you.

After a little tweaking and positioning. I can say Warfedales sound great. I have pushed them hard and let them idle. They sound great either way. Sometimes I worry about them when I'm cranking, but I never hear distortion. Always clear as a bell. I love my W60E speakers and it will be hard for me to let go of them. Bass is so tight, mlds translate well. Overall you can't beat them. Hard to believe these speakers are so old. Newer speakers in a lot of categories will not hang with these things.
