old vinyl disc player - $450

Remember those vinyl disc players? Heck, this even has a magnetic acetate player! Actually it looks like an interesting but overpriced tube console. Anyone recognize the make and model?

It's not mine; I just saw the ad a little while ago. I imagine I'll give the seller a call in the morning to get some info. It does look nice, but not $450 nice...maybe if an Ampex. Yes, VM did make reel to reels. Did they make big consoles too? Here is a pic of the back from the ad:

I see a power amp xmfr in the right hand slot there. If anyone recognizes that chassis with tubes on either side of a sideways mounted power tranny, that would tell the tale.

Yep, information on make and model might help. Functioning or not would be good to know too. I often wonder on these consoles how the seller determines an asking price. Oh well, I emailed the seller late last night and will follow up with a call later today to satisfy my curiosity.

But for a console it has a pretty large transfomer, and it does look like a much higher than average unit, for someone that collects them 450 dollars doesn't seem that much to me. That seems like it might have been an expensive one when new. You should check out what speaker drivers it has in it while your at it. But really I suspose the main vaule is for people who strip them for the amps, which is to bad, hope a few will survive for prosperity!

Right above the turntable on the right it does appear to have the Victor emblem on it.

I have not talked to the seller yet, but Voice of Music it is based on a little bit of sleuthing. Here is a photo of a VM 1001 console from an expired eBay ad and it looks to be the same. Intro year of 1960 with an intro price of $1025 according to the voiceofmusic.com . I'm not going to pay $450 for it, and I don't have the room for another console. It sure is a looker though...

Well you do know more than you did earlier, and obviously the current owner knows less than you. If you do want it, this is one I would lowball.
