Old Wharfedale speakers

I've been listening to these speakers for 40 years and one of the small speakers is now buzzing and I need a replacement.

The large speakers are Wharfedale W12 FRS 10-15 ohms 14000 lines and the small ones are Wharfedale Super5 10-15 ohms 14500 lines.

Does anyone know if I could find replacements for the the small speakers, or a modern equivalent??

Thanks, John

I'd try for an original replacement for awhile before going with a non-exact replacement. Ebay often has loose drivers for sale. I've bought and sold Wharfedale drivers there.

The BarterTown forum, available to paid subscribers on AudioKarma is another place I would look for a driver I needed.

Can you post a picture of the driver in question?

The Super 5 tweeter was similar (but not exactly the same) to the Super 3. I believe the Super 5 came AFTER the Super 3, but I can't remember for certain.

The woofers do come up on Fleabay, but the Super 5 might be tough to find. I wonder if the Super 3 would work as a replacement (I can't remember if they were the same size or not... I believe the Super 3 is a 4" driver).

As far as I know, the Super 5 was used in the original Dovedale model (NOT the Dovedale III) as well as the earlier W2 (Not sure about the W3). This was, I believe, a Briggs-era model (or at the very-least, it used Briggs-era drivers). Is this what you have?

I think you would be better off sourcing an original Super 5 tweeter rather than trying to emulate it with a modern replacement (or you could simply look for another pair of whatever model Wharfedales you have (W2's, Dovedales, etc.). The Super 3 and Super 5 have a very-unique sound to them (Personally, I think the Super 3 is one of the best cone-tweeters ever made, and from what I've read, the Super 5 is also excellent).

The speakers are:

Wharfedale W12 FRS, 10 - 15 ohms, 14,000 lines.

Wharfedale Super 5, 10 - 15 ohms, 14,500 lines.

The crossover is at 800 Hz.
