As a Caps fan, I'm looking forward to seeing Russia play against Canada so I can watch Ovechkin give Crosby a deserved spanking.

the way the brackets draws are set, that can only happen if both teams win through to the latter stages of the tournament, which isn't out of the question, by any means.....I'd love to see USA do well, but they're heavily outgunned..BTW, the USA-Switzerland game is on the tube now, 1-0 USA at the first intermission

Paul Stastny is playing good hockey with Parise, and Kane. Im Canadian but i follow my teams players(Colorado Avalanche). The olympics just won't be the same without Joe "Super Joe" Sakic. Good to see Peter Forsberg getting the chance to play in this tournament.

It will be a blast to see the best players in the world playing with each other , these are all totl guys , so the team that comes together the quickest and has a hot goalie might shock some of the fave's . Once the prelim is over it's win or out , 1 game . Must be a real pressure cooker for all of them . I am very eager to see what my Canadian team looks like together , big talk up hear about 3 cold goalies .
Good luck to everyone , will be great action with all the star power on the ice I am sure .

the Russians are ominous...Ovechkin, Malkin, Federov, Semin, and more.....definitely my pick for the gold..they play Slovakia tomorrow night, hardly a pushover

Got to watch the womens game last night. Some damn good players on the US team. Looks like it'll probably be US and Canada for the medal again.

And also, Ilya Kovalchuk, Maxim Afinogenov, and Alexander Radulov. That makes for a very powerful team on the offensive side but except for Andrei Markov, are somewhat lacking at the blue line. Their goalie are sometime very hot or very cold. The Canadian:thmbsp: and the Swede will be the teams to watch, and the dark horses, Finland and the Czech.

agreed..Canada is ominous as well, and we know there's only one Brodeur..Sweden seems to have Germany well in hand now, and I'll be watching the Czech-Slovak match at midnight eastern to see what they look like..gonna be great once these groups settle into playing with each other and get some systems down pat

Over here we joined a hockey pool, we pick 15 players for the duration, no trade allowed.
My pool,
Sweden: H. Sedin, D. Sedin, Erikson, and Backsrtorm

Canada: Marleau, Nash, Staal, Heatley, and Doughty

Russia: Kovalchuk, Afinogenov, and Markov

USA: Dustin Brown, Stasney, and Kesler

1 point for a goal and an assist.

I hope two of these teams will go for the long haul.

you passed on Malkin and Ovechkin? Yvgeny Malkin amazes me..hes truly overlooked playing alongside Crosby (by the press, and those that rely upon it for hockey knowledge)..if I recall correctly, Backstrom rang up the German goalie at least once tonight

They are five players per group, if I choose H. Sedin, I have to forgo Ovechkin, if I pick Backstorm, I can't pick Semin, and so on until you pick 15 players.
If I could of pick any players, my list would of been quite different.
Since I believe that the Swede has a chance for the final, I had to pass on the best of the Russian, time will tell.

Crosby is a fantastic player, but as you said the press always forget about excellent players playing alongside the star. What makes a good player, are other good players, the press don't know a thing about hockey in general...

Can't say your wrong, he is somewhat whiny, talks too much, but he is a hell of a hockey player, educated, well spoken (outside the rink), does not act like a buffoon, and maybe when he gets older, he'll stop his whining...

+2 on that. But I seem to recall saying the exact same thing about Gretzky in the 80's. He's just a kid and last olympics they wouldn't even let him play. Still, you can't deny the talent.

Still, you can't deny the talent.

Absolutely not. He's tremendously gifted. Heck, he's the second best player in the NHL.:D I've been relishing the Caps/Penguins games and the Ovechkin/Crosby match-ups. It's just that if you're a Caps fan, you're conditioned to dislike or at least diss Crosby.

I'm a Montréal fan, always was, always will be, and I like to diss both equally, the Ovechkin and the Crosby, but watching the like of them, the Kovalchuk, Semin, Backstorm, etc...makes for some good hockey. Now however it's the Olympics, so Crosby has become one of my favorite player\whiner, and as soon as the games are over, he can go back with the funny name team...
