Omega Speakers

Hi,

Did Omega make speakers back in the 80s? I have a pair of 12inch 3-way speakers that I'm sure are Omegas, but I can't find any information on them.

I got them back in the early 80s and I re-foamed the woofers about 6 years ago. I recently blew up my Paradigm Atoms and re-employed the Omegas and despite the wife annoyance, due to their size, they sound so good.

So, just trying to find out some history of Omega if anyone knows of them producing such a speaker back then, and they came with stands.

I'll take a pic later so you can see what they look like.

The Omega speakers I had were made by Hammon Electronics, or something like that. My research, at the time, led me to a sub of the Hammond Organ company. Unfortunately I bought the speakers used so not sure what the era was for them.

Oops...

HammonD, forgot the "d".

For some reason I thought the Omega name was used on White Van speakers in that era.
Those don't look "White Van" however.
Then again, your location may negate anything I say about that scam :)

Have you pulled any of the drivers and taken a peek inside yet?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the mid ported (from the rear) as well? Interesting, don't recall ever seeing that before.

Hi,

Yes the mid is ported from the rear. Inside the cabinet the mid has its own internal enclosure and ported. The tweeter is also boxed internally.

I will need to pull it apart to check the label on the driver.

They are great sounding speakers and have a nice tight bass and good upper registers, but then again maybe I'm used to them and they could be total shite, but we ran them the other evening on a vinyl night and we all thought they were crisp and tight. Certainly shat over the pair of Sansui SP-1700 speakers we were also using.

Oh sorry for the pics being so stupidly large. Didn't expect that and will thumbnail pics from now on.
