One of The Ways We Gots It Better Than Those Folks in the 70/80's-Music Collection Size

Yes. And I agree that there is very good music out there. Part of my comment though is that in the past there was promotors, and radio "looking" for those "really good albums" and today what is projected as mainstream is for the vast majority just the opposite. What's been spoon fed as mainstream, is what could be "controlled", created, fabricated for mass consumption at the highest profit. Look at how club music has taken over the radio. A strong commercial drum machine beat, followed by synthesizer programmed auto tuned voices and cheesy lyrics... that's what dominates the radio. Like it or not, in the states the radio is still "mainstream" and what kids know and buy. In the past, there was cheesy stuff, but there was also some talented awesome stuff. Today the talented stuff is hidden and everyone is searching for it.

I get your point.

IMHO ... Frank Zappa seen this coming years ago. ... nobody wants to take a chance anymore.
The old "let's run it up Flagpole & see if anybody salutes it".

I know my uncle who got me into the audiophile hobby was the "big time music collector" when I was a kid. He had maybe 300 records. When CD came out he sold all the records and really upped the ante with a collection of a hundred or so titles, a HUGE cd collection at the time. I haven't bought a CD in at least a decade and I still somehow have accumulated a larger collection and as far as records... we'll just say I have WAAAAY more records than he did.

I was reading an article recently talking about this. One of the examples sited was a song made by a guy on his computer as a joke, He and a friend were talking about how boring and formulaic house music was ( I'm no electronic music expert but "house" music is a form of Electronic dance music) So the guy went home, made a joke song called "This is house" and apparently it was a huge hit , hitting number 1 on the electronic dance music charts. Guess he was right.
