I own an Onkyo A-5 and it is a great amp really love it, bought one brand new in high school ( yes, class of '79) and it works great. Having a case of upgrade-its however I was offered an Onkyo M5060 for a trial. (120 WPC and those big meters!). SO I pull the jumpers on the A-5 to use it as a pre-amp and hook everything up and all is well until... I try the headphone jack, no sound! (The m5060 has a jack but it doesn't work for some reason and that will get serviced when I take it in for a check out). I put the jumpers back in, headphone jack works. I have a Realistic Tape switcher so I take a signal from there into the A-5 Main In jacks- headphone jack works. strangely all my sources have headphone jacks as well so I have a few work arounds, but is this normal behavior in Onkyo Integrated amps? all integrated amps? or just the A-5? Never used a power amp before, but I always assumed the headphone output was part of the preamplifier section.
