Onkyo CP700m

BTSs

Active Member
Hello and good evening (or is that good morning in this world of the web) to all.

A while ago I picked up some Onkyo equipment (A5, T9) and a non working Onkyo CP700M turntable was thrown in.

The tt had been in the back shed for years without the plastic cover and at some stage something has been dropped on, or sat on it. This bent the headshell and broke the stylus.

After a bit of cleaning, deoxiting, re-soldering a few joints and replacing a defective second hand cartridge I bought it has been running fine. Well better than fine I am really surprised how well it sounds considering the condition it came in. Current cartridges I am running are Stanton 681EEE and a Nagaoka MP-110. Both a big jump up from the Ortofan OM5E I was using from another deck.

I have found little info on the net about this turntable. According to a short thread I found in the archives of this forum it might be as good as or if not better than a Technics 1200. Then again it might not.

Though I will not be stepping up to anything else soon (budget blow out from buying to much stereo stuff over the last year) I would like to get an idea from those that know a lot more than I were this turntable may lay in the scheme of things so I know what to keep an eye out for.

Thanks for your time,
Tony.

Below is a link to one page I found to show the table. Mine`s black not the woodgrain shown.

I would call it an excellent upper middle class turntable for the era. Different from a SL-1200 but excellent in it's own right.
