Onkyo CR-N755 (Streaming Options)

I need help. This is probably a dumb question, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by the information and just need someone to get me pointed in the right direction.

I recently purchased an Onkyo CR-N755. I probably over-estimated its technology (apps and stuff no longer supported). Anyway, I’m looking for a cheap and easy way to get audio streamed to it in lieu of a separate streamer component. Is there like a USB wifi or Bluetooth dongle or something I can add to the USB port and then connect to my iPhone and stream from an app (e.g. Amazon Music)?

I plan to eventually invest in something a bit more sophisticated like a WiiM, but I’m just looking for a quick start for now.

Not to the USB port, but there are plenty of Bluetooth receivers available on Amazon that will connect to the AUX IN or LINE IN connectors on the back. Look for one with AptX and Bluetooth 5.0 or greater.

That’s what I was thinking! However, if you use Aux or Line in, does that mean I’d be using whatever cheap DAC comes with the Bluetooth receiver instead of the Onkyo CR-N755 DAC? I just did a quick search just now thanks to your response, and I saw a few examples with USB connectors. What am I missing here?

All Bluetooth receivers with USB connectors are designed to work with a computer. Modern operating systems (be they Windows, MacOS or Linux) will have the Bluetooth drivers built in (all the logic for controlling the BT receiver is handled by the O/S). However, the USB input on your Onkyo won't know how to deal with it, as that's designed specifically for playing media off a storage device like a USB stick or an iPhone or iPod.

There are some Bluetooth receivers available with an optical output, which you should be able to connect to the optical in on your Onkyo. This would prevent you from having to use the BT receiver's D/A converter.
