Onkyo Integra A 809

I have been thinking about pulling my Marantz 250 and doing some cleaning and maintenance on it. I want to take my time on it so I wanted to get another cheaper amp to take it's place for a while.

So in cruising eBay and CL I came across an Onkyo Integra A809 for a stupid low hmmmmmm price. I just wanted a power amp but the Onkyo was too good to pass up. It did not come with a remote but I ordered a Logitech Harmony for it.

The first thing I noticed is that it is a BEAST. Heavy as hell with really solid feeling controls. Got it into my main system and it sounds really nice. Not nearly as warm as the Marantz house sound, but great detail.

The faceplate is lack aluminum with black steel case. Just a really great integrated.

The power supply is big and heavy.

Looking good. I have an Onkyo tucked away as a backup/secondary amp as well. They made good stuff.

What really struck me is how well built it is. A lot of 80s stuff sounded just fine but were the usual BPC. From the selector switch to the motorized volume control, everything has a good heft to it.

I programmed the Harmony remote last night and it works great.

It does not look too out of place in the main rig.

I have about 40 hours of listening in with the Integra and I have to admit it is a really nice sounding amp.

I took the Marantz 250 out of its wooden case today and sanded it and re oiled it. I am more torn than I thought I would be about putting the 250 back in my main rig.......I think the 250 sounds as good if not better than the Integra but I really like having a remote.

First world problems suck...............

Hello, music lovers....I just bought / ordered a clean A 809 with original remote on E bay today$400 ...I already have a clean ARV 401 on the way. .I ordered for $99.00 last week before I heard about the 809 ....does anybody know the main difference I can expect between the two ?

The Onkyo did not hang around long but I liked it a lot and was impressed by how well built it was.

I used to work at circuit city back in the 90's and used to sell that amp. Bought one at one point and got into a pinch and had to sell it. i regretted selling it and ordered another one before i quit there and still have it this day.
Alot of really nice features including both mc/mm phono selection, and it is a beast to move for sure but it's really nice sounding and can drive some low impedence speakers if needed.
This one is gonna be with me forever.
