Onkyo TA-2700 playing issues

I have a nice TA-2700 deck that I bought a while ago. The seller mentioned that the belts were replaced not so long ago and in principe it plays well. Speed seemed to be good and stable upon listening. Forwarding and rewinding also worked fine.
After not using it for while I connected it again and some playing issues started.

What happens is that after playing for about half a minute the right hub stops spinning and one or two seconds later the deck stops. When I take the cassette out there is a short loop of tape sticking out. After winding the tape back into the cassette and placing it back in the deck it will not play, forward or rewind. It will play, forward and reverse again when I turn the hubs back and forth a little by hand before putting the tape back in.

I have cleaned the capstan and pinch roller with IPA.

What could be the issues? Bad belts after all?
What other tests can I do to find out more about what the culprit is?

Thanks for thinking with me!

The take-up reel stalling followed with auto-stop is typical of a dead-spotted reel motor. There are three remedies
1.put deck in FF for 20 hours, in sessions of 2 hours (use an empty shell if necessary); this buys some time, especially when periodically repeated
2.remove and clean reel motor internally; the effectiveness of this difficult procedure is not proven
3.replace motor; fitting motors can be bought, but generally of low quality and with a significant risk of noise-injection unless totally encapsulated in mu-metal shielding

However, that the deck remains totally dead after a stall is not typical. Normally FF and REW always work. Maybe your reel hubs are gummed up and need thorough cleaning.
This would be strange, as a non-tempered-with Sankyo drive has nothing that can gum up the reels.

While the deck is apart the back tension belt MUST BE REPLACED (SCY3.2 or SCX3.2).

Thanks for your reply. On the tape-heads forum is already got some replies, also suggesting dead spots in the reel motor and a solution to have the motor running in FF for a while.
I tried this and the stopping issue has disappeared.

I have not worked on a tape deck before and I am eager to get some experience, so I will open it up in while and see what I can do.
How do I best clean the reel motor internally

Also, now the deck runs nicely again, I noticed that the "real time counter" runs a bit slow. I guess it runs at about 50-75%.
It's not an essential part, but does anyone have some ideas on this?
