Onkyo TX-108

I scored a near mint Onkyo TX-108 receiver. It is a true monster two channel receiver and like the Sony STR-GX10ES, it has nice rosewood side panels. The Oinker sports 20,000 uF caps and a conventional tranny so I'm guessing it is around 125 watts per channel. The lights are tastefully done. It came with the matching CDP and tape deck. The tape deck is a nice three-head design. I'm guessing the vintage is 1987 or 1988.

I used to have one. But, that was before I got my first R-117. The TX-108 was MSRP'd at $900.00 and was the second unit in the line. The top model went for $1,050.00. According to my 1987 Audio Buyer's Guide, both units have the same power rating so, I'm wondering what you get for the extra $150.00.....

Hi,

Congratulations on your TX-108.
If you need the Service-Manual and/or the User-Manual PM me with your e-mail address.
For now just the specifications in the attached .pdf.

Kind regards

You've had one of almost everything! Yes, our favorite R-117 is still the King of the eighties receivers. I just wished it had rosewood side panels like my new Oinker.

Thanks tri-comp! That's awesome you have the S.M. and the U.M. for my new Oinker!! I'll send an email.

I stand corrected, the TX-108 has only 100 watts but that's OK. I like the sound, it is not overly manufactured. There is a dreaded computer control inside. Whether that means an actual processor or a just a chip, I don't know. I tend not to use "sound enhancers" but they all work so the chip is good.

Tri-comp was kind enough to share his documents with me. This is the kind of help that makes AK such a wonderful place. Well done, Tri-comp!

I have a problem. I am trying to hook up a low impadence ASR systems level controller to my Onkyo TX 108. I have no idea what I am doing. It's been just so long ago since I've done this. Can anyone give me a hand?? The ASR Systems is pretty much Custom built from the '90s. It was built by Audimation Nescopeck PA, (570) 379-2970. I forgot how to speak the Tech language so he lost me somewhere around Canal HiFi his distributor in NYC...You can answer me ( explain ) as if I were mentally handicap. I will take absolutely no offence to that.. LOL.
