I had just picked up a TX-1500 and it was 100% functional but needed the dial lamps and dial indicator lamp. That's all done and I came accross a TX-4500mkii on ebay for $99 and picked that up for my basement receiver. This one needs lamps, FM, some dial lamps, Stereo, so I'll probably do all of them LED.
Trying it out when it arrived, the FM tuner seems weak. It picks up my favorite station at 106.1 but only a few stations right of 100. There are several strong stations left of 100 and it only picks up one. The signal strength and tuned aligment VUs work fine, they even indicate channels at mid or more strength, but no channel sound. Stations all to the right side come in good. It seems like it has to be on for a bit though sometimes before even the 106.1 station comes in. The amplification sounds great and surpasses the TX-1500.
Any places components to check for this tuner issue?
I'll be putting it on the bench and taking the cover and face off to fully clean it. It was really yellowed but a few spots I tried cleaning with some hand soap on a soft towel cleaned up easy and looks really nice. Looking it over there are only 2 very very minor scuffs and the rest of the receiver is original and in excellent condition. If cleaned up it will be a very near mint and you would have to really look to find the one tiny scuff and scratch on the other on the woodgrain vinyl. All the lettering is good too (in the pic the power button red looks gone, but it's perfect and bold, must be a phone camera issue). Here's a pic.
If I can get lamps done (ordering from Dave) and figure out the tuner issue this will be a super sweet silver face.
