Onkyo TX-7000 Phono Section? Stacked Advents?

I have found a nicely refurbished Onkyo TX-7000 (90wpc) for sale. From prior posts, I understand this is a very nice sounding receiver with a hefty power supply. I cannot find any info on the quality of the phono section. This would be important to me as I would be using the 7000 to mostly play vinyl. Does anyone have any feedback on this phono section, or to the one in the TX-5000 (I would imagine they are the same).

Also, would I be correct in assuming that the power supply in the 7000 would be able to safely power 2 pair of stacked Original Large Advents?

Hmm, under the heading: "Onkyo, My First Biggie", I find conflicting comments about the phono stage in the vintage Onkyos. From the phono stage being "the achilles heel of the Onkyo TX-xxxx series", to "lackluster", to "killer phono stage in the MK2 series".

I would guess that basically the same design for the phono section was used in all their receivers starting with the 2500/4500/6500/8500 thru the Mk2 series thru the 3000/5000/7000 series, but having never heard any of these, I have little idea as to the quality.

Please put in your 2 cents if you have heard a phono through one of these. Thanks
 
Seeing as this was TOTL or near it, I'm thinking the phono will be good. Never heard one tho, receivers don't float my boat.
 
I just gave my TX-8500 to my wifes son to hopefully enjoy and appreciate, i had retired it to garage duty some time back. Anyways I found its phono section sounded decent using my middle of the road Pioneer PL400 with a Concord cmc100 cartridge. A positive experience. I do enjoy my vinyl more using a Pioneer QX-949a with the same PL400 turntable,more warmth with less then half the watts of the TX-8500.
 
As I recall, my beef with the TX-6500MKII receiver's phono section was that it sounded a tad thin but this may be a good thing in some systems.
 
I like the MK II series best. The 2500 MK II was used as my main rig for 20 years, the whole time using a pair of 6 ohm and 8 ohm speakers, and still sounds great today. The TX 7000 was a big powerful oinker for sure, probably under rated as far as power goes. The 8500 MK II was TOTL, dual mono 160 WPC, and is my all-time favorite, of any make.
 
Onk 2500 Mk II, 4500 Mk II, Dual TT, MA 282e cart/sty

I have an Onkyo TX 2500 Mk II--40 WPCh. I bought it new in 1978. At the same time, I bought a pair of New Large Advents, and a Dual 1237 Turntable equipped with a MicroAcoustics MA 282e cartridge and stylus. I also have an Onkyo TX 4500 Mk II and an Onkyo TX 8500 Mk II. My recently-acquired, Dual CS620Q turntable now hosts a like-new MA 282e, also recently acquired.

The Dual CSA 620Q with the MA 282e stylus sounds great through the Onkyo TX 4500 Mk II.

My old Dual 1237 played beautifully for years with the MA 282e stylus using my original TX 2500 Mk II.

I have not yet tried the Dual/MA 282e combo through the TX 8500 Mk II but I am sure it will sound good.

One thing the 8500 Mk II has going for it is a damping factor of 40.

All three receivers seem to have tons of power. Even the little TX 2500 Mk II will rock my house through those not-highly-efficient New Large Advents. If you crank it up to, say, three o'clock, you cannot stay in the same room.

The New Large Advents make the concrete floor in my basement vibrate when I run the TX 8500 Mk II through them. I have never had it up past about 11 o'clock. I do not want to know what happens if you crank it to "High Noon."

Lord knows what would happen if I hooked these Onkyos up to a subwoofer.

I think the Mk II series of receivers are pretty darn good. I have no plans to trade or sell mine.

I'm also a fan of MKII series. Big oinkers are fun :)

For the stacked Advents, I'd be looking for a MKII model with dual power supplies. IIRC, that any of the top three models, 8500 if you can find one?
 
Love Large Advents. The best amplifier I ever heard playing them was the Crown DC 300A. For stacked Advents, get thee 2 Crown DC 300A. Get a preamp or preamp-tuner of your choice and be prepared for Audio Nirvana. I also love Onkyo Grand Integra separates with Advents. Onkyo phono stages are fine with most any MM or HOMC cartridge.

I've never er seen that model, but Legacy II were my first fronts, bought in September 1990.
