This is a 2-channel stereo receiver that has all the digital inputs as well as RCA and phono inputs.
Any thoughts about this unit's sound quality vs home theater stereo setting?

Would I be gaining anything with the Onkyo over my current Integra HTR?

Does your Integra have phono, the RCA inputs this Onkyo have? If it performs well enough for good Stereo, I suspect it might well. Hang on to it. If you can afford this one, and you can audition it in home, with your gear, try it. Report back. Make sure it's returnable if necessary.

Kent... the picture above says it all.
My Integra does not have the PHONO input as well as numerous other RCA inputs. But I have a separate/external PHONO.

Well it is out of stock at Crutchfield but maybe you can find it somewhere else.

Calling this an HT receiver is quite a stretch since it is only two channels. It is a two channel network receiver.........I like that it has a lot of inputs including phono etc and will probably sound just fine, as most Onkyo did and does. But it make little sense for HT use. If it had a 3 channel mode with a center front speaker output for dialog then I could see using it for HT use.

I have a Marantz NR 1608 4K HT network receiver and it has a pure two channel mode but I far prefer my vintage two channel systems for music so I have both in the living room. If I needed a new two channel receiver, this looks like a nice choice.

Yes I understand that the Onkyo is not a home theater receiver. My Integra HTR, like yours, has a 2-channel mode. I have a small listening area (12 x 17) and the 2-channel mode on the Integra system fills it well. I've thought that the rear speakers weren't contributing much and that I might switch to a good 2-channel receiver... and the Onkyo has all the same inputs as the Integra plus the PHONO so making the switch would be pretty easy.

I did look into whether there was such a thing as a 3-channel receiver.... I guess not.

I have two 8270s. One I got open box for a good price when it was first released and another for $80 without remote on shopgoodwill. Same remote works for both.
The 8270 is a fantastic two channel receiver. 100 clean watts. Fantastic DACs and streaming, and capabilities to handle HDMI. One of my 8270s currently drives a pair of KLH 23s in my front room, mostly use streaming via Ethernet connected Spotify. But since the 8270 also has a decent phono input I have a Realistic Lab 440 table as well. Great system.

my second 8270 is in my large living room driving a pair of Acoustic Research AR5s. Also have a Dual 1249 turntable in this system. Have a DVD player connected via hdmi to play CDs. The 8270 has two subwoofer outs. The crossover can be adjusted via the 8270 which is pretty unique in a receiver. There are two pairs of speaker outputs and the second ones drive a pair of speakers outside on my backyard deck.

I don’t use this 8270 for TV sound. Use an LG sound bar and woofer for this. Compromise with the spouse. but during some home renovations I ran a stereo TV system with the 8270s driving my pair of JBL L100ts. This was a fantastic sounding system! Cable box HDMI into 8270 then into TV. Ethernet input for superb streaming! And a Sony DVD player for CD and SACD playback.

I can confidently recommend the TX 8270. It’s a fantastic modern two channel receiver.

I failed to mention comparison of the TX 8270 stereo with a HT system. I have a separate dedicated video surround system in my basement. I have a Sony DN 1080 to handle the surround. The 1080 purportedly has 100 watts per channel. This system sounds fantastic with surround content.
During the home renovation mentioned earlier I initially had the Sony in my TV stereo system. It sounded ok. I then swapped in the Onkyo 8270. Noticeable improvement in stereo reproduction, especially in the streaming and CD playback. The DACs on the 8270 are better I think. Plus the 8270 gives true 100 watts.

My front system is in our smallish living room. I tried just using HT units for both and did not like the sound on two channel mode, so after trying a bunch of different things, this is what I came up with. The HT front speakers in the inside of the two channel Advents (the speakers change out every few months) with a Sony Ta 3200 amp with Marantz 3200 preamp.

Get the Onkyo and use both.
