ONKYO TX-SR805 question

I am not sure this is the right place for this post. I am looking toward the first upgrade to my system. This Onkyo does not have an HDMI board anymore. I use it for two-channel only. Do you think it would benefit from a standalone preamp?

The 805 has both multichannel preamp outputs and inputs. You should be able to use it as a preamp or a power amp, depending on need.

As to improving sound, I seem to remember that the 805 had a pretty hefty amp section. So, a decent, separate preamp, should be an improvement. Adding a Schiit Saga tube preamp, to my system, was a definite benefit.

James, from looking at the back panel I/O's, it looks like it can be used as preamp but not strictly as a power amp.
