Opinion needed on Marantz Gear...

Okay I am talking to the owner on some different gear. He is basically giving me about a $45 on a pair of Marantz Imperial 5G's he is interested in and in return I am considering a swap plus cash on the following;

Receiver, Marantz 2238B Receiver $270.00
Receiver, Marantz Model 22 $225.00
Receiver, Marantz 2238 Receiver $180.00
Receiver, Marantz 2220B $150.00

I am not familiar with any of these pieces just the Marantz name. Anyone venture opinion on whether these prices are in line and which one represents the best deal?

Any help would be appreciated.

Searching the bay and only the 2238B and it seems his price is about $100 higher than today's market. These prices change all the time so do your ebay work and get the transaction you want.

I'm going to disagree with bolly. I don't know about the model 22, but IMHO the other three prices are all way too high. So there you go. Three responces, all different.:D

Unless those models are pristine with original paperwork or have been re-capped and restored, those prices are too high. With Christmas just around the corner, the prices on Ebay have jumped up too. Wait a month or two and you can get that same gear for much less.

I'll agree that they are too high, but I'm cheap. :D If they have the wood cases, the value will be up accordingly, of course; seems most of the smaller ones don't, though.

I just can't fathom spending that much cash on a 20 - 35 watt receiver. Wait a bit longer, save a bit more, and lurk for that bigger unit that'll hold it's value and that you'll love -- you'll have better performance and way more flexibility! Then again, I'm always surprised by the prices that people are asking for the smaller Marantz units, particularly in my neck of the woods... :scratch2:

Too high. Sellers see the Marantz name and are really trying to drive up the prices. I wouldn't pay more than half of those prices. Marantz receivers aren't exactly scarce.

I don't know where you live, but in Missouri I would say you are getting middle dollar for your speakers, and paying top dollar in return.

Amongst out group of friends in town, we try to keep things on the cheap and deal with good to great deal prices as much as possible. We do not pay top dollar unless it is a crown jewel type piece, which none of these Marantz are.

Sell the speakers, and lurk/birddog until you find a more reasonably priced 2230 or 2270. $200 will buy a lotta Marantz receiver IF you are patient.

I agree, way too high, unless they've been restored. I bought a totally rebuilt/restored 2240B that's banging out well over 50wpc now for $225 a couple of months ago. I bought this locally, not ebay.

Thanks to all for responding!!

I am going to wait a bit and see if he contacts me with some lower prices. I already have more gear than I need but would like to pick up some vintage Marantz if the price is right.
