Wanted to ask here if anyone has (or had) the Luxman CX and MX-100 pre and power amp set, and cared to expound on their quality and sound. What little I've found so far has been quite complementary, but there aren't a lot of these around, so first hand opinions are scarce.
These date to about 1984-85, and are of the now long running Luxman champagne finish, with blue and pink lucite buttons for certain key functions. While I'd love a C-02 and M-02, they are a bit steep for present budget constraints. Further, I already have the matching CD player, D-03, and a TX-101 tuner I've picked up surprisingly cheap to make a nearly complete set.
I've been intrigued by Luxman for years, and now have an opportunity to get a really clean set of CX/MX-100. I'll probably seek out a GX-101 eq and maybe a PX-101 linear tracking turntable to go with them eventually.
I'm not forsaking my Sansui obsession by any means, but have decided to sample some of the other stuff on offer. This lineup appeals to me, despite - or perhaps because of - it's very 80's aesthetic. While some seem to think the Alpine era Luxman lineup was not their best, (and arguably, their preset product line is far and away superior, as clearly reflected in the prices) I get the distinct impression these were still very well made, and remain perfectly worthy gear.
Really, I'm interested in any first hand assessments of their build quality, sound signature, or for that matter, disclosure of any common major problems I might do well to expect. Such input would be quite appreciated.
