So I have been thinking sometime about how I would replace my collection of vintage gear.
In March of this year I had a car stolen from my driveway. I had a difficult time finding a car in like condition. The insurance company did not pay me what I thought the car was worth.... My car was somewhat collectable and there were very few available of my particular car available. I could only find 3 or 4 examples of my car for sale nationwide. This got me thinking about my vintage gear.
I asked my insurance company if they would add a stated value rider on the gear and they said they do not offer insurance on vintage stereos.
So I started a web search on places that can offer coverage. I talked to one company, and they seem like they might be able to offer coverage for what I need. But they have a "item is not to be used" clause. So they would insure the stereos not powered on... I know they don't know, what I might have hooked up and not.... I am not looking for coverage if the thing blows up. Only looking for theft/fire/flood, etc insurance....
How do you value them? Prices are based on condition, and not all of them are %100 and need restoration work. I know I can use a discounted amount off final sold items on the Bay.... I also restore my own gear and the value will increase once restored....
What do/have you guys done.
Any thoughts on this?
