Opinions on most over rated audio equipment.

Ok, I'm not looking to start a "flame war" hear, but thought it might be fun (assuming we keep it civil) to discuss brands that are more popular than, maybe, they really deserve.

For example, I'll start with an easy, and not too controversial one... Bose
For a little more controversy, I'll throw Polk under the bus too.

...what brands (or even just models) of audio equipment do you guys think get a bit too much praise?

You realize people have a tendency to take these kinds of threads waaay too personally for them to be any fun, right?

I agree with the OP regarding Bose, and I own a few of their pieces. However, I also agree with Evan in that the wrong name will be put out there, and someone's going to take it to heart. Hard feeling almost ALWAYS come of these types of posts.

Anyway I'll cast a vote for Pioneer. One company can't possibly make everything well and in fact they didn't.

At the top of the heap is MacIntosh, I never heard a Mac system that lived up to its price. Of course this is only my opinion, which is why I don't own it.

Nor am I a fan of many 70's speakers. I don't care for Advents, Boston Acoustics, Time Windows, Dahlquist DQ10, various Acoustic Research, several of the JBL's, any of the US released speakers from mainstream Japanese companies, or Acoustic Research.

While we are at it, lets not forget the Technics SL1200.

So far you guys are AWESOME!!! If I tried this thread in another audio forum (not to be named here), I'm sure it would have gotten way off color by now. Lets keep it going in a light hearted way as long as possible.
FWIW, some brands I love have already been mentioned, but that's OK, it's all in fun!

+1 on Mac. Not bad just not worth the asking price to me...and again I'm not one who has anything against expensive audio.

Before I contribute.....Please post your equipment in your sig as most of us do...

I too will mention Mac gear...My dealer where I get my stuff is a big Mac store...Nothing so far I have heard they have is head and shoulders above what I have...Especially for the 4 digit price tags they ask for.
