I want to connect an OPPO UDP205 to my vintage Harman Kardon 730 receiver. If I connect it through the stereo RCA cable would I be taking advantage of the OPPO’S analog DAC? Or is there another way? Thanks.

A DAC is analog on the output side, digital on the input side.

If you connect a digital source to the Oppo (another CD player, computer USB, etc...) or use the Oppo as your digital source and then connect the Oppo's RCA analog output to an RCA input on the HK then you are using the Oppo's DAC.

Oppo has TWO DACs inside. One for stereo with balanced outputs only, and one for 7.1 surround with RCA outputs. Steteo DAC is one that has all benefits. Though you need balanced connection to your preamp to utilize it. Stereo DAC is the main feature of Oppo 205. 7.1 DAC is exactly the same you can find in Oppo 203.

The stereo DAC has RCA outputs as well as balanced.
