Optonica RP-4705 and 7705

I bought an Optonica RP-7705 some time ago at a thrift store and am anxious, now that I have some money to restore it. But it lacks a counterweight.

Would any of you know offhand if the counter weight for an Optonica RP-4705 Direct Drive Automatic Turntable also work for an Optonica RP 7705? They look the same.

Since you do not have a counter weight, worth taking a chance!

You can apply additional weight to the basic counter weight if necessary.

"Applying additional weight to the basic counter weight if necessary" is easy — subtracting weight if necessary, less so.

Another question is if the other c'wt will fit the shaft. Too big a hole can be coped with — too small, less so.

But definitely go for it. Odds are it'll work, it's the nature of mass-production to use interchangeable parts whenever possible. I've always been intrigued by these TTs — almost bought a 4705 last year at a GW, many interesting and unique design features. But it was way too beat up, or I wouldn't have hesitated.

Thanks! I'll give it a try. I plan on having a professional repair the TT. It has a few other issues. But I AM excited as I have never had a turntable of this quality before.
