Organ speakers

Speaker Freak!!!

Picked these up today.Evidently, these were built to accompany an organ, which also had an amp(someone else bought the amp). These are 3 feet tall, and 2 feet wide.6 inch depth at the top,and 16 inch depth at the bottom.VERY heavy!!! The drivers are 15 inch woofer, with butyl surrounds,8 inch mid with butyl surrounds,a 5 inch mid/bass?,and a 1 inch tweeter. The mid and the woofer have cork gaskets, which I haven't seen on any other speakers yet.Just wondering if my $100 was well spent. Also,I believe that these were meant to be mounted to a wall, with the woofer down? They sound great, but I'm thin king they would sound much better with the tweeters up top.Anyone have any experience with this type of speaker? Are they worth the $100 that I spent? Do they need to be hung with the woofers on the bottom??Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. Rich

modern speaker, made in taiwan, no branding. i would have been skeptical. But then again i dont know anything. As an electrician though i do appreciate the craftsmanship that went into cable management! :)

Most woofer manufacturers usually include their codes along the rim of the speaker, so you will need to remove it to have a chance of figuring out what it is.

The organ speakers were probably constructed and installed by a "custom" supplier, which is not uncommon for installations in large facilities.

Installing speakers in large auditoriums and churches is usually delegated to a local specialist, who can familiarize himself with the facility and determine how best to meet the sound needs. Organ companies still offer speakers, but aren't as likely to get involved in custom installs. Quite often the drivers are extremely good (such as JBL), but that is not always the case.

hard to tell from pictures but look low power to me ..maybe 16 ohms 50w-100w as i know many organ speakers were /are .
maybe they will sound good ..who knows until you try them out

all I saw on the mid and tweeter was 8 ohm. They sound really good, but I'm thinking of reversing the baffle,so the tweeters are on top.

I'm sure they were designed (the cabs) for elevated wall mounting and project downward to a seated audience. They are more than likely now actually sitting upside down.
