Possibly yes. Nice components for sure if as advertised. They don't really go lower than decent monitors, but that's not necessarily a bad thing in my book.

If being sold by someone other than the builder they might go for less though.
 
They look nice and have quality components. See if you can audition them and, if you like them, make a respectable offer. Looking at the specs, you might want to pair them with a subwoofer depending on your listening tastes.

Exactly. I would definitely give them a listen if I was in the market and these were local to me.

These may be fine (certainly have potential to be) -- but, I've gotta say... whenever I see the phrase "throw a huge soundstage"... my immediate thought is usually well, we're dealin' with an Audio-Bozo, here.

The other phrase that sets off my Bozometer (Fosgate makes those, right?), in case anyone cares, is "sound signature".
 
As this guy purportedly manufactured/built these towers, I wonder if the phrasing may be a pat on the back? I may go tomorrow to take a listen. Thanks.
 
Yeah, I was thinking that perhaps even if they are all that they are cracked up to be, that I would be able to offer much lower than asking price. After all, obviously no one else has thought they were worth the asking price...
 
DIY speakers

It's always a gamble. Cabinets seem to be nicely made and high quality drivers are used....but...was this cabinet properly designed for those drivers? Big question.
Once I bought DIY speakers from a guy who supposedly built them. He did a pretty good job with all the woodwork and finish, but they sounded like crap! So you never know....which is another reason to offer less than asking....
 
Since they're DIY, you pretty much have to hear them and decide for yourself. However, they've been up for a long time -- you can probably get them for considerably less than the asking price. If you do pay the asking price, be sure that you really, really like them, because you probably won't be able to resell them for that price, no matter how good they sound, since they're DIY.
 
Thank you guys for the input. I think since I am new to this I am going to stick to brands and models that don't make me nervous...
 
There is nothing to be nervous about in this situation.
Ask for the audition, bring CDs you are familiar with, don't be shy to ask permission to remove woofer and tweeter to make sure they are what the seller says they are.
And if you really like the sound - make an offer. What is there to lose?
