Original Fisher Receiver Wood Cabinetry?

Definately home built. 1.) TA-800 came with a metal case covered with a Dark Red leatherette (or resonable facsimile). 2.) Fisher never did a case with Dovetail joints and or rounded edges. GORGEOUS! Keep it!

I've seen a good many Fisher receivers and other components in wood cabinets (I still can't nail down the variations on the Fisher 500 (mono)), but the wood cabinet that came with my "new" 800 (TA-800) did not have the "Fisher" look. Fisher "look" or not, it's a great compliment to the receiver.
Related, a contributor to this site (thread) some time ago posted a photo of the metal --- but leatherette looking --- original case cover for his Fisher 500S receiver. I assume your reference with respect to the 800 (TA-800) would be a similar metal/leatherette case.

Not sure what your definition of “custom” is, but there’s enough information in the manual(s) to extrapolate a very good copy.
Almost everything you’re looking for is within or eluded to in this thread, basically make sure the vents are at least equal to the diagrams in the manual. Beyond that the sky’s the limit, there’s a wide variety of examples here in the Fisher specific pages

Just one that looks like the original, I don't want to buy one just make my own that looks original. I found a post with some dimensions so I should be able to work with that. The only place i could find who would be willing to restore the 500c with shipping was AEA in California. The place in Hartford and the guy in NY require me to bring it in and that's too far away. NOT AEA! Do a search in AK for AEA & Fisher. You'll find more than a few horror stories and no happy customers.
Don't know what other options I have; sounds like the biggest complaints have to do with the time it takes them (I called and he said 4-5 months) and I'm OK with that. The other issues seemed to be resolved with shipping back and having them fix which I know sounds like a pain in the arse. I'm going to see if Hudson Valley hifi would give me a quote and deal with the shipping. I just don't have the time to try to do this myself although would be fun to do with someone who knows what they are doing. Too bad I grew up in CT and NH and seems all the good repair shops are up that way but now I'm way down south.

Give Dave Gillespie a PM. He's near Atlanta. None better, and he'll tell you EXACTLY what's wrong with it (tube performance or lack of, Tuner performance, MPX performance, all other systems/circuits) before starting work on it, and do exactly what you want done with it.
